  • Now that development has stopped I wonder if Beta Testers will identify themselves? (p.7)

Well gents, in that case thank you for revealing yourselves as it gives me the opportunity of saying a personal thank you and also allows me to say that "I take my hat off" to you for all your hardwork because I have benefited greatly from your input.

I've really enjoyed Sonar from version 8.5 Pro through to X1 Exp, X2a and then a jump to Platinum.

I have to say that I always lagged behind a version until an update or two came out to ensure I didn't get serious problems or stability issues which is why I held on to 8.5 until X1 Exp came out and then the same with X2 until X2a came out.  I then skipped X3 and a few months after Platinum came out, bought into the lifetime offer!!! :-(

Good work gentlemen and you've just reassured me as to why I won't be jumping ship for a considerable while because I'm in the knowledge of knowing that I have a well developed, stable and fully featured program.  I have to say though, after spending many hours researching issues and info in this forum, I wasn't surprised to see some of your names here.

Cheers guys!  :-)

What an awesome message! For what it's worth, thank you, you're welcome and it was both an honor and a pleasure to help with a DAW I loved and used since day one of my computer recording days. Our last beta crew was by far one of the best I have ever worked with in any software environment. And in the event Gibson or someone else continues to allow sonar to live, do not hesitate to reach out to our group. I would hire the beta testers here for my own software if I had any. You guys and girls were that thorough and I leaned a lot from you. It also feels great that quite a few of our ideas, decisions and hard work actually made a difference for the better. I'm sad but I'm thankful and extremely proud. :)

+1 on learning a lot from the beta crew and being part of the beta crew in general. I learned a lot about Sonar itself and how it works. And also of the whole meticulous art of testing and troubleshooting.

I was a beta tester back around...sheesh I don't even remember! 8.5 through early X. I just wasn't as good of a beta tester as I was a complainer. :-) I just couldn't keep up with all the build installs and restores while I was using my rig as a production machine, and couldn't contribute the time it took to do the job properly.

I was a beta tester, started with Sonar 2 (when support and beta groups were on the newsgroup). I worked on Sonar 7, but when S8 was released to the beta team I found that I was too busy to test the software and dropped out.

I enjoyed working with the Bakers. I didn't always agree with their decisions but they were professionals and they were very involved with bug resolution (at least at that time). I got to meet a few of them at NAMM shows - Ron Kuyper (sp?), Noel, Brandon and a couple of others. Being on the beta team taught me many things about Sonar - the final lesson being, I learned that I didn't have the time to beta test. But it was a cool experience.

I started beta testing from CWPA9, the transition to SONAR 1.0 was a rush. The Beta team had some of the smartest people I’ve ever met in my life. Don’t remember what version I stopped beta testing. Still want to honor the spirit of the NDA....but man there were some epic challenges in the early days.

I did a little bit of Beta here and there over the last year or two where I could. Running a busy studio made it quite tricky but I figured as someone who regularly pushed Sonar beyond what most peops will prolly ever do I had something to contribute. I wish I'd had more time to test - some of the Beta guys were astoundingly thorough and dedicated. Hats off to them!

I would also say a big thank you to all beta testers for Cakewalk, whether or not you have revealed yourselves.

Oh man beta testing was a LOT more complicated and problematic before the CCC was introduced and we got that incredibly useful "rollback" feature. I remember having to rename different versions of the .exe file and there was all sorts of complication involving shared resources that could cause mayhem if you were trying to switch back and forward between a beta build and a public release and you weren't careful. With the advent of the CCC we could not only install new beta builds but roll back to any version we liked with a single click of a mouse. Anyone who ever complained about the CCC should realize just how much easier it made beta testing of Sonar!

I was less convenient if your PC was normally offline.
