I will continue to use Sonar for years. Too many projects still in process.
 
If i knew then what i know now:  I would have chosen reaper: more configurable, macro language, adjustable interface,...
 
But, i have too much time invested in SPlat to change quickly.
 
It is NOT yet a pumpkin.

There are still people using Sonar 8.5
The company may be gone but Sonar is very much still usable. you may bail out at any time but many of us are very happy using Sonar. Not happy with the state of affairs in Cakewalk but the Software still works great.

I was caught up in being PISSED when I first heard, about Cakewalk being ditched. After a cooling period I realize that the product is still the product and until I can’t, I intend to use it, that philosophy may well change but that’s where I am now. While there are features I dreamed of being added, one being the ability to make marker titles bigger, I’m happy with it and my only real concern now is tech support i.e. crashes, bug fixes, compatibility issues etc.

I think maybe the rolling updates got me spoiled, but in reality where I am right now is where I was when I bought X3 Producer in the box, just with out tech support.

Downloaded 60 day free trial of Reaper only today......following someone's forum comment yesterday.
Am sifting through its offerings with a pair of 'Sonar Glasses' on.
Must say............these guys are really serious about their program...and obviously aiming at a mass market (given the modest cost). It definitely seems more 'Sonarish' than most Daws waiting in the wings. PS: Don't let the low cost put you off.....I think these guys are very clever actually.
Findings thus far have caused me to sit up and listen more !!

agree 100pcnt...I think some just want an excuse for the 'new gear', and I admit, for a day or two, that thought excited me too. I LOVE new gear. But in the last year, I developed a 'does it pass the I need this' test.
 
And ditching SONAR for something else, for me, doesn't pass the test. It still works, will work for some time, so why not just keep working and using it?
 
my thoughts.....

I’m still using going to keep using Sonar but as I’m retired and under no pressure except when I decide to take on a project, I’ve decided to take advantage of the Cubase offer as it’s the cheapest I’ll. Ever get it and start slowly familiarising myself with it.

I never thought about Cakewalk closing and if you’d asked I would have said ppfftt! I know better now and though I think Sonar Platinum will continue to work. Recent history has shown me that thinking something is not knowing. My eyes are wide open and bathed in a lot more cynicism than ever.

So I have my backup plan. And besides it’s fun exploring new software, especially a big monster of a program that is Cubase 9.5.

I too will continue to use Sonar until some issue forces a change.
 
The fact that no more updates are coming is an issue for sure, but much like buying a car, if you take care of it, it will continue to work even if the company goes out of business...
 
It is still currently (for me) the leader of the pack and other than not being the "industry standard", it beats all else out there!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. How about letting others decide for themselves. 

Following from a previous post yesterday.....
I am on my second day trialing REAPER....and my admiration grows per test.
Yeah..Sure this program is LOW cost ( Warningly So ... perhaps).........but I really think these guys are being extremely clever............. in shooting for a MASS APPEAL market....with essentially what appears to be a quite professionally designed and well presented product.
Just trialed 'AD2' in 'REAPER' and whilst I still feel I am 'driving on the opposite side of the road' (Hee Hee... Downunder we drive on the left side of the road ...Oh Dah )........ I managed to load all the individual AD2 drum tracks into the REAPER DAW on separate tracks with surprising ease. Very intuitive GUI and program.
Thus far no painful roadblocks requiring Googlehunt remedies  :)
