In my opinion Windows Tablets will die, unless they become defacto PC's it's about apps and devolpmentent of Apps.
Apple and this pains me has the goods when it comes music apps, plus there are now so many music devices that interface with the Ipad so it's just not feasable any other device will challange the Ipad when it comes musical apps and abilities.
It's the Pro Tools things again, Apple was first and the rest are just trying to catch up, it's taken 10-15 years to see the end of Pro Too's dominance of the market and it will be similar with the Ipad.
Peace Ben
Pro Tools didn't get where they are only because the were 1st. The developed technologies that still no one else has. Many people still believe that DSP based mixing is more dependable for commercial sessions. Although this is arguable, it is not arguable that no one has even come close to their dedicated control surfaces.
IMO Windows tablets will be huge since MS (and the rest of the world) is all about touch technology and Apple will likely remain more expensive. It will, however, take a while for the music apps to catch since, apparently, iPads are the only ones that can currently handle audio well.
What I am talking about is they're a lot of angry campers in the Pro Tools world now, the upgrade prices and some older equipment not working anymore. Trust me Pro Tools has had it's pinacle and now its heading to the trough.
I base this on my knowledge of history, two subjects at uni, I understand analysis and it's Rome all over, Avid cannot expand it's boarders anymore so like Haddrian they build a wall to stop the invading Picts and stop trying to conquer the world.
DSP is dead, lets get this straight, it is no longer necassery, they're a lot of people over in UAD land who just think their cards are ILock's in disguse, I use UAD and barely touch the outer limits and all I have is is a solo laptop card. I just don't need the DSP power and I regualry use up to 10 VSTi, up to 80 tracks and effects.
I have also used Creamware/Sonic Core DSP cards, probably the best DSP cards evermade in terms of effects.
The notion that you need DSP power now is put out there by people trying to hold off the marauding Picts, hence the Roman analogy.
I bet Seth or Brandon would agree that an Octo Core computer with however much memory would cream most DSP systems now and then back to Thunderbolt.
It's about time Pro Tools was put in it's box its an overpriced dinosaur and much like the punk of 1977 I snear at Pro Tools and want to put my bother boots on and stomp on it's memory. In fact I am going to get a Pro Tools T Shirt and write on it "I Hate Pro Tools"
As for the Windows statement, if you had read mine you would have seen that Windows 8 will rock it if and only if it is a defacto PC but then were not taking into account the different interface's needed to make it a trully functioning music machine. At the moment every audio company and their dogs are bringing out audio interfaces and tools for the Ipad.
Behringer have mixers that the Ipad slot into and they have a device called the IAXE to help teach guitar.
Window's Tabs are going to struggle to compete with this.
Back to the Rome analogy with the Ipad at the moment we are in the transisition phase between Ceaser and Agustus, so another 100 years away from Haddrian.
Peace Brother
