Brandon, do you recomend the SSD drives?

That's next on my list.

Any drawbacks?

I love 'em and wouldn't want to go back (I do have one 1TB spindle drive for backup projects and some sample data).

I've had no problems (knocks on wood) thus far with one yet. The latest generation of Intel drives are particularly nice (I have Gen1 drives).

To me it makes the whole experience better. No brainier for a system drive but I even advocate them for project and/or sample drives (behind using them as a system drive). The lack of noise, the lack of fragmentation, the blistering access times. Everything feels way more immediate to me.

Haven't tried one of the new hybrid drives yet but they look kind of interesting for larger purpose drives (sample libraries or maybe for audio drives).

There are of course the obvious drawbacks (thank you 10) of them being more expensive and in smaller capacities than traditional spindle drives, but I suspect you are aware of this.

Either way IMO the benefits far outweigh the costs, especially for a system drive and/or smaller "working projects" drive.

I hooked up the AC-7 and Sonar X1 kept crashing my iPad. Maybe X1b will fix that too! Seriously though, I prefer the touch of real faders and the touch screen offers me no sense of anything. I have to constantly stare at the iPad screen to see what is going on.

Still, Brandon, it would be very handy (pun intended).  But make it for android - I just picked up a 10 incher, with USB.

Which one did you get?
Viewsonig G tablet

Cheaper than the ipad, has usb, hmdi out.  They put some kinda funky software overlay on top of android 2.2, but you can get rid of that.  And should be upgradable to 3.0 when that comes out.  Here's hoping Cake jumps on the android bandwagon.

I think it's got to be a question of when rather than if Cakewalk makes an app for Sonar. However, I don't believe they should focus on trying to make it like a traditional DAW controller, like the VS700C, rather more of a replacement for the Tranzport. I don't think a touch screen would ever be fast enough for serious use in everyday DAW tasks, but as a remotely operated control surface? Hell yeah!

Ever since Frontier discontinued the Tranzport (still scratching my head - I have absolutely no idea why they'd discontinue the most useful bit of 'add-on' hardware for DAWs ever!) no one has stepped up with an adequate replacement.
Obviously WiFi clashes with drivers will be an issue for some, but I've never suffered this as I'm using an external Airport Express as my 'wireless card.' I think the sooner Cake develop apps for both the iPhone and iPad, the better. I currently have to run a 15ft powered USB extension to get a signal strong enough for my Tranzport, as my live room is a bit of a distance from the control room, and the walls are a little 'too soundproof.' It would just be so easy being able to whip out your iPhone or iPad and you're off (not that I own either at this stage - but I would buy one as soon as Cake's app is released).

Cake are busy people, and it's probably not high on their list of priorities right now (and neither should it be at this point in time!!), but it's clear there are some very knowledgeable programmers in our user base. Why not commission someone to write this app, Cakewalk retains ownership, and pays the author royalties? I'm sure several users would jump at the chance - for free too, but everyone should be paid!

I hope this idea gets some serious consideration from the boffins - care to suggest it to your colleagues Brandon?!

I'm staying away from tablets and their apps for music production.
I'm just not a fan of them at this time. Nothing really wow's me and it's all a bit redundant.

Thanks,

In some respects it needs to be redundant, like when your standing across the room and just want the transport bar. Or even the "big time" display. or anything really.

I'd be more impressed if this forum's crappy software worked with my (wife's) iPad.

DAW control looks pretty cool, but I just downloaded the Omni TR app and I'm patiently awaiting the Omni 1.5 update.........any minute now.

Do you mean that your wife's crappy ipad won't work with this forum software (or flash, USB, HDMI, doesn't take pictures, no kickstand, no 7" option, etc., etc., etc.).

SONAR X1C - with a kickstand!  That's what I'm holding out for.
