I'm happy to see that so many of you use SONAR Pro Channel.
I have also other plugins that I do use frequently so I have  build my own Pro Channel control panels for them. Plugins like SPL, Nomad Factory, Native Instruments, Brainworx, BBE etc..

i currently avoid the pro channel because its incredibly cpu intensive. does anyone else experience this? i can understand using it on the final mix at the end of a project, but if youre like me and mix as you go, its so laggy. especially the EQ!! i move it a fraction and everything freezes...i use sonitus plug ins instead.

I don't experience this at all, performance is transparent for me. I see in your spec that you have two external drives...depending on what you have installed on them I could see that as being an issue, IIRC there was a problem with Screensets if the floppy-drive controller was enabled back in X1. Perhaps this is a similar situation?

Not at all...
PC is pretty light foot-print running here.

I like the Pro Channel stuff... but I tend to make heavy use of Waves SSL bundle and the TRacks CS Grand bundle.
For reverb, the new Phoenix Verb.
I'm very familiar with the SSL channel/bus comp, 1176, LA-2A, and Pultec plugins.
It's easy for me to achieve the sound I'm looking for...

Regards,

I see no evidence of that here.  I have ProChannel on every track.  EQ on all of them, then various compressors, Breverb and PC FX Chains on others.

The Concrete Limiter can cause latency, but any "look-ahead" processor will.

I have not experienced any "laggy" behaviour, or seen the CPU meter overly taxed, caused by the ProChannel.  I wonder if there is another issue here.

Gah! Dammit Jim, no more mentioning new plugins like Phoenix Verb. Now I have to go demo it, I'll probably end up buying it and then even though my studio is a purpose-built room, it will turn into a "bedroom studio" solely by virtue of my wife kicking me out of the actual bedroom and having nowhere else to sleep. Homewrecker.

:)

For compression I'm a "little of column A, little of column B" guy. If I'm looking for a specific thing I'll generally stay away from the PC and go with hardware or UAD/T-racks/Waves, though the CA-2A does a couple things very well. If I'm looking for general or quick compression, PC every time.  That said, I think someone could probably do a really respectable production job just using the PC stuff...it's pretty solid kit, AFAIC.

No, I don't see the here - I have PC enabled on every track and I usually "mix as I go" just like you.

Ditto.   And that's another reason I like PC... because it seems to be very non-CPU intensive.

My girl will tell you I suffer from severe G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome).
She just calls me crazy...   ;)

Phoenix Verb is good.
It'll remind you of $2000+ hardware units.
