Hi all, I almost feel embarrassed to ask this :) - I've opened an X1 track from a friend on my home setup - we have the exact same versions +/- a few plugins. I've armed a track and checked the inputs. But when I click record OR hit "R" it won't record. I get nothing. The inputs are correct and I'm getting plenty of signal. I've tried with the Input Echo on and off, still nothing. I've spent more than a half hour looking at this, and I'm baffled. Anyone ever had a similar problem? -ryan

Not sure if this is related to your problem but also look in Pref/ Project/ Record & select 'Allow Arm Changes during Playback / Record'

When you say "it won't record", can you be a little more specific?

For example, does the timeline move when you hit 'R' or does it stay put?
Do you get a signal on the track meter from your mic/interface?
Does it seems as though it's recording but you get no waveform?
You do have the track armed for recording yes?

Oh yeah, Midi or Audio?

Could there be a sample rate issue?

I record at 44.1, so any MP3 tracks I bring in are at the same rate - I wonder if there is an issue with how the import is being done.

I am certainly a newb on the above, as it is always the same rate for me, maybe someone else can comment on this for me.

Check to see if the AUTO PUNCH RECORDING is turned for a clip further back in the project.

If this came from your friend, he could have been doing a punch near the end of the tune and saved it as a project before he shut off the punch in.  So you open it arm a track and hit go.... and it sees the punch so it waits until it gets to the punch before recording.....

As a result, you see good signal, the color change to the track, but nothing gets recorded....you check and the inputs are correct but nothing records......   sounds exactly like that may be the issue.

I've been caught with this same issue more than once..... just look at the tool bar and see if punch is active.

The timeline moves like normal when I hit R; I am getting a very good signal through the track meter. Also, the track is armed I double checked that. But I get no wave form. This is an audio track. I'll try Hal's tip also...

Kinda sounds like you might have a Punch In set somewhere as Herb suggested.

Scroll from beginning to end watching the Time Ruler to make sure there isn't any markers showing up indicting a Punch is set to record somewhere.

Punch Points will normally show up like this:

But be careful, if they're right up next to each other they're more difficult to spot:
