Recently I started experiencing Sonar (X2) crashes when I opened Firefox. This was especially repeatable when I attempted to play audio from any site via the browser. Following a crash, I would need to re-select the correct sound card out channel in Sonar.

Thinking back, the only recent change I'd made was to move to a wired Logitech trackball from a wireless Logitech mouse: I'm having a few RSI issues. So I went back to the wireless mouse and the crashing stopped. Could anyone suggest why this would be so and what I could do about it? I would very much like to continue using the trackball.

did you install the logitech mouseworks software?

Yes, I have the latest version.

try removing the software and use only the native Windows driver to see if the crashes still occur

perhaps before making the removal, you may wish to try plugging the trackball into another USB port. use the following steps.

1.     either shut down or restart the computer (do not unplug trackball before this)
2.     during the power down make the switch to another USB port
3.     on boot up, Windows may detect a new device and does the "driver thing"
4.     if all goes well, it may work out

sounds like there is a conflict in the USB drivers for the trackball and audio sound card.

Damn! Things are not what they appear. 

This morning, after a good deal of experimentation, it appears that the problem does not lie in the mice after all. It appears that it simply has to to with the opening of Firefox - or Chrome - while Sonar is operational. This causes the browser to hog the sound card (Layla 24) main outputs and thus crash Sonar. The problem is that sometimes it doesn't happen until I attempt to play audio from the browser - and sometimes simply opening the browser will cause it. In all cases I need to re-start Sonar without the browser present and re-select my outputs again.

Without the browser present there is no issue.

This is all very new within the last few days following many years of stability. What could have changed?
