Is there anyone who can give a plausible explanation of why your sound file folder contains many more audio files than are actually in your project?
Let my clarify. You have as an example completed a project that contains - let's say 20 tracks, but if you check the folder that is generated containing all your wav files, there are a whole lot more than in the finished project.
I can imagine that the system generates additional audio files during the mixing process, but the problem is to identify the current sound files being used.

To cleanup a project audio directory, perform a "Save As" with the "Copy all audio with project" checked. It will copy only the audio actually referenced in the saved cwp file.

You may have recording some clips and then deleted them. If you delete something in the project, it does _not_ get deleted from the audio folder. If you want to clean up the folder for that project, just do a File - Save As to a different hard drive location. SONAR will only keep what's being used in the project.

I'm assuming you're using the Per-Project Folder option and not one global folder for all your project audio files.

Even without deleting anything you'll usually have more files than tracks, for the simple reason that each clip is a separate file.

But the main reason you end up with a surprisingly-large number of files is that SONAR doesn't like to toss anything away. Split a clip and you don't have 2 files, you have 3.

I stopped worrying about it when they started building hard drives that are impossible to fill up. Sure hope you are not using a global audio folder like Scott has warned too! Bad deal that one. 

The Audio Folder will contain everything - like the guys above have said - this will also include anything you think you've deleted

This can even save your butt.

If you "accidentally" delete a track for example and close the project. Then tomorrow, you decide you want it back.... but the undo file was wiped on exit yesterday.  With time and patience, you can look into that audio folder and find the clips in the track that was deleted and reconstruct the file and the track. A bit of trial and error with nudging is required but it is totally possible to do.....
