  • Are There Any Wavelab 7 Users Out There That Can Help with Shared Plug-Ins?

Hey Folks--

You never appreciate how great the Cakewalk forum users are at helping you until you go to another company's forums (insert .wav of crickets here)

Anyway, I've got WL7 and it has some great plug-ins I'd like to use in X2. (I did not install WL nor X2 in the dafualt folder locations (by design)--FYI).

I can't seem to get X2 to list the WL plug-ins in my audio effects selections. I scan the proper folder(s) in X2 vst options, but the plugs just don't show.

Both the WL and X2 versions I'm using are 64-bit, as is my OS = W7.

Any help is appreciated--as always.

Thanks,

Steinberg as a rule will not allow other programs to use any bundled plugins. However, though they have improved the quality of their plugins that are bundled they still don't match the quality of CW's plugins. I wouldn't bother trying to use WL's plugins in X2 Pro. Its not worth the effort.

I'm wondering if the Wavelab 7 plug-ins are only VST3, which Sonar doesn't support.

That is also true.

Some are 3, but not all. I guess if they are VST3 they don't work in X2. What about VST2?

If you read my post above I explained that Steinberg does not let you use their plugins that are bundled in other programs.  They are locked to the Steinberg programs.

Got it. Must have gotten confused by this statement after your earlier post:

I hoping Wavelab 8 will behave a lot better with other plugins then 7 has. What a hassel. I installed both 64 and 32 bit versions of WL 7 and some plugins show up in one, some in the other and I cannot get them to happen any other way. And I know what you mean about other forums. CW is the bomb! ALWAYS get help here, 90 % leading to a solution. You guys are awesome!

Written into the VST spec is the ability of a plugin to identify its host. Steinberg put that in for the express purpose of developing plugins that would only run in Steinberg hosts, or in third-party hosts that have paid a fee to Steinberg.

To be fair, Steinberg isn't the only vendor guilty of this practice. There are some great plugins in Adobe Audition that I'd love to be able to use in SONAR, but they were commissioned by Adobe from iZotope and coded to only run within Audition.

I currently have an issue with Wavelab 7 not recognizing 32-bit plug-ins (many), so my world has gotten complex:

1) To use 32-Bit Flux or Algorithmix plug-ins that I paid good money for and love dearly for Mastering. Wavelab 7-64 bit will not recognize them.
2) As a result, I have to install the 32-bit version of Wavelab 7. This alone is very doable and successful, but!
3) Waves enters the picture and screws this all up. WaveShell has some fault that seems to crash Wavelab AND Sonar X2 many many times over when trying to open them, since it installs both 32 and 64-bit versions.

Even if I try to "hide" the 32-bit versions of Waves from Sonar, and "hide" the 64-bit versions from Wavelab 7, they both still regularly crash when trying to open Waves plug-ins.
