Hi guys,

Sonar is going to be the timecode and show control master on a new live show I am developing.

Some systems (eg lighting) will be running their own cue playback stacks from MTC provided by Sonar, but some systems need specific MIDI messages sent on a particular port/channel.

On a MIDI track in the timeline view, can I create and insert custom MIDI commands, much the same way that I can create MIDI notes in the piano roll?

Many thanks,

Martin

You can insert any midi events you want on any midi track.

Yes, in SONAR open the Event List view by choosing Views > Event List. In that view, you can insert all types of events at specific times.

Even a freeware midi sequencer would do this . I agree with Scott and use the event list, as it gives you a very precise linear view of the events. It's also multi channel.

Thanks all. I'm also looking into a Sonar MIDI output to OSC output over Ethernet using Bidule or Max/MSP to allow Sonar to more fully control the media servers / video playback - Resolume Arena opens up much more control to OSC than MIDI.

hey M

I'm doing similar work as well.  I use Reaktor for osc/midi and midi to osc as well as pure data for randomization and video manipulation via gem and opencv.  iirc one of the things that you can do is have sysx data in track view being output to a midi controller that is hooked up to the system.  you can also trigger those in real time using the sysx view.  i've been meaning to try using that with matrix view but haven't gotten around to it yet.  i use rtp midi for network communication and it works well over wifi and ethernet between pc's or pc and mac.  one of the things that you can do with reaktor is set up an instance in sonar with a patch to convert midi to osc or vice-versa and then direct its output through the rtpmidi port.  the options there are pretty limitless as far as i can see.

oh... btw your website seems a bit nonexistent...
