I hope you reported this to CW.

If you add the specific items from the synth that you want to automate from the track view (instead of just enabling automation from the synth properties screen)  in selecting automation tracks this seems to work.

Why did you select all the mapped parameters in the first place? Why not just the one you want to control?

Below is from the manual page 818

Automating controls from the Synth Rack
Once you create some control knobs on the Synth Rack, you can record automation from them. Use
the same procedure you would use to record automation of any other SONAR knob or widget. See
“Recording individual fader or knob movements” on page 1009 and “Displaying Synth Rack
automation” on page 818 for more information
You can also draw and edit synth automation in the Clips pane. See “Drawing soft synth automation
in the Clips pane” on page 819 for more information.

“Recording a soft synth’s MIDI output” on page 820
Displaying Synth Rack automation
You can choose what track you want a synth’s automation to appear in for editing. Use the
Automation Track menu in each strip of controls in the Synth Rack to choose what track you want
to display the synth’s automation on. You can display the automation from several different synths
on the same track, or put a synth’s automation on a track that is completely unrelated to the synth if
you want.

When I try this it seems that if you have first selected "all" and then delected most of them, the next time you go back they're all selected again.

But if you only select the ones you need, this doesn't happen.

@john - i didn't select all the parameters - i deselected over 400 of them (the reserves that aren't mapped to an instrument) and they still read as being touched.  part of the problem is, when the popup appears and asks if you want to record all 527 parameters and you click no, it writes them all anyway.  displaying synth rack automation and mapping a knob on the browser leads to the same problem.  doing this three times, clicking no, and then an undo invariably leads to a sonar crash.  the reason to do this is because instead of drawing in automation sometimes i like drawing the parameters in realtime (sometimes i don't have a controller handy to remote-control an established automation lane - which is the only way i've found to avoid this issue).
problem reported - funny thing though the last couple i've reported haven't i haven't received an e-mail confirmation, so i don't have the cwbrn's.  peh.

this is a valid point, but there are synths like z3ta+2 that enable all parameters by default when you click the w button on the vst interface so you have to remember to deselect them all and select the one or two you will be using.  it takes moving about 5 in z3.2 to have all 519 written in sonar.  i'd still expect only the 5 i touch to write tho....

Hi Swamptooth,

I can't tell from the video but it looks like you have Automation Overwrite enabled for this track. Go to the Track Inspector and click on the Track tab. In this instance you will want "Touch" rather than "Overwrite" enabled for Write Mode under the Automation section. Let me know if this is not the case.

Thanks

hi dan:

thanks for the follow-up.
nope, the automation was set to touch mode.  same issues with latch and overwrite.
one odd thing is when i was working on the piece again at a neighborhood starbucks i couldn't recreate the issue in the same project.  when i got home, problem persisted.  now that has me thinking that all this time when i was thinking starbucks was a minion of evil maybe i need to get the house blessed instead! ;)
