Hey there, so I was having a few problems with X2 and my Motu, but seem to have worked that out. My last session had a few glitches in it however and I would like some feedback.

1) New project - started with a single, mono, audio track, did a second take but the first take kept playing, even with the mute on the take lane. I had to save and close, then reopen. Worked fine next time.

2) This has happened a few times. I had a few tracks where at quiet moments during a vocal you can hear a bit of the click bleed in from the headphones. I liked the takes so decided to use Izotope RX2 and apply FX to clean up these sections. I found that I could not use this if there were Take Lanes on a track. I had to delete lanes or move vocal take to another track.

3) Random crashes when opening Izotope Ozone, or Stylus RMX. Only once in a while, doesn't seem to reflect any strain on resources, no consistent pattern.

4) Had 2 projects where I could not open the VST instrument(Kontakt and Stylus on another)) to edit parameters. Had to close without saving to access these instruments after reopening and adding the VST's again.

Has anyone else experienced these issues? Do you have more information? Has a bug been filed?

Thanks!

Your specs indicate X1, and your post lists X2, just to let you know.

Are you running X2 or X2a?

Please also indicate for number 4 whether or not these are 64-bit versions of your plugins or 32-bit, and also whether or not these were projects created with X2 or X1.

For item 3, are those 32-bit or 64-bit?  Also, your sample rate must match between Sonar and your audio interface.  Are they set to the same sample rate?

For item 1, I have no thoughts - I do not do multiple takes.  I just go in and fix stuff or redo it.  Sorry I have nothing there for you.

If you do not yet have X2a installed, I highly recommend you install it, as it addresses something like 250 bugs and enhancements.

If you DO already have X2a, did you do a full rescan of all plugins?

I try to keep things updated: Sonar X2a
I use the 64bit versions of my plugins, whenever possible. My NI libraries, Stylus RMX, and Izotope RX2 and Ozone - should all be 64bit.
All my plugins have been updated and rescanned.

I would use the gate in PC for that noise bleed.

I would not use Ozone 5 while mixing. It for me uses way too much cpu.

I don't know what caused the problem with your synths but it may not be due at all to Sonar.

RX while still comping not sure this is a good idea.

I use these:

They work really, really well with any DAW that works.

They are one of the better pieces of gear I have acquired over the years... so much so that I continue to buy more of them as opportunities come up.

best regards,

I had weird Mute issues in Take Lanes, exactly the same symptom. Sometimes, the Mute was automatic, sometimes, it didn't work at all.

@OP -

1) Are you enabling take lanes before you record?

2) Have you tried the PC4K Expander/Gate?

I don't use Isotope or Stylus, but have not had these issues with other VSTs.

@mike_mccue - I'm sure your lovely picture helped the OP after the event.

P.M. me and I'll explain about the gates and expanders we used in the old days to correct previously recorded material.

How's the Amiga forum going?  I hope you're not giving them too much stick.

 Thanks John.
I didn't realize the singer had the headphones up so loud. I compensated on further takes. I will gate if nec.

I don't plug in Ozone until I got a scratch mix going, and its usually only on the Master during the last couple of passes. I used it all the time the same way in X1 with out issue. These demos are 5-6 tracks at most, and I am seeing no spikes in PC/RAM usage nor resource conflicts.

I'm not sure the source of the instrument issues either, that's why I am throwing this out there. Fact is, same set up with much more tracks, on very VST heavy instruments, did not have these issues on X1. I was doing orchestral tracks with large Kontakt libraries (LASS/Symphobia) and running smooth most of the time. 2 days of recording guitar, vocal and adding a sample track or stylus and things got a bit wonky here in X2.

I am applying RX to a track, not running it as an effect. I am using "Process Effects" while cleaning up sections of audio clip. Which works great, when it works.

Essentially my set up is pretty overkill for this demo project, so I am trying to trouble shoot these issues. I have used track lanes while scoring strings and really enjoy it. I write out each line in its own track lane, for a single instrument like violins, and can edit the lines independently in each lane.
However, the basic use of the lanes as intended, with audio clips - like 2 or 3 takes of a vocal or acoustic guitar - have produced mixed results.

You have another couple of options at least which doesn't involve using Izotope or Applying Fx - just use a volume envelope on the track (or clip), or a mute envelope.
