did I not say you were the closest one here.
your right its midi synch.
did I not mention it was midi synch ? sorry, I thought I did. matter of fact I did.

second question, have you seen the Boss DR3 drum machine ?
why not suggest he use the samples from session drummer?
there like 20Xbetter than the 100 drum machine and probably have samples twice as superior.
maybe he didn't know this was possible, but if someone suggest using midi samples and using midi to trigger his loops is like again 20Xeasier to work with.

all he's got to do is write all his parts in the drum machine and press play to trigger session drummers samples.
sound easier than working with a boss's audio track ?
not to mention he will only have a stereo track for his drums.
by using it with midi you can have each drum piece on separate tracks.

were not talking about a live kit here, if that was the case we would in a whole different world.
were talking about midi signals inside a drum machine being routed and recorded in a wave file.
why not keep it all midi ?
unless you think editing audio files is easier than editing wave files. not.

read my post slowly ? .. all in caps ?
that's just a little ignorant don't you think ??

and rightfully so you deserve a reply like the one ive just gave.

Cactus Music
Sorry Charlie,  I guess I should have said "CJ" read my post. He seemed to have not.  But I see you did mention MMC which is another way of controlling some drum machines, not sure if his will have that feature.  But even my 505 which I think is from 1984 has MIDI sync, It takes 2 seconds to push the right button.

An when someone ask how to do something I don't think it's my place to ask why. Sure there are a million ways to produce music with different combos of gear. I saw he wanted to record his patterns and I too have used drum machine patterns over the years so I have given a simple way to sync Sonar with his machine. Period.

My drum machine is permanently hooked up to my MIDI out port and then is monitored through my mixer. I find plenty of uses for this old beast still. In less than a minute I can record a song idea using patterns I have used for 30 years now. My patterns.

Also don't forget that a modern producer might just like the sound of a particular drum machine and this sure saves time digging through the 1,000 of samples we have in those libraries. Drum machines are retro cool, I wish I'd kept my original Analog box that came with a 1960's organ. We made a lot of money with that terrible sounding thing. And now I hear those sounds again in Electronic productions.
