Folks,

I have two CWP files that open fine but when I go to play them, I get an error stating "Cannot open audio playback device". I can close this CWP, and open another CWP and it plays fine.

I was thinking perhaps I had saved my audio files wrong, so I converted them all to 32bit, saved the file and opened it again. I still get the same error on trying to play back. Tried the same with 64bit. No dice.

Any suggestions? It has to be project based since only two of my many projects have this issue. My audio interface is an Presonus Firepod.

Thanks!

Are all the project the same as far as Preferences, Audio? Especially sampling rate?

Go into preferences and see if your card is still listed and set up in Sonar. Your bit depth has nothing to do with it. What's wrong is the configuration of your card inside sonar

You could try setting up a new project and importing the audio files, just to see if there was some project file corruption.

your asio or wasapi buffer size is probably set too low.

It sounds to me like your sample rate is not matching. I had the same thing when I opened an old project that was recorded at 96khz sample rate and I just use 44.1 all the time. I just reset my driver for 96khz and went on with it.

I had exactly the same thing myself today with one particular project.  The problem disappeared after a reboot.

sonar can only run at the rate the card is set.

if i open vegas, vegas resets the card to 48, because that is what video uses. if i then go back to sonar without resetting the card to 44, i get the error.

if you're running 44 files, the card must be set to 44 before you open sonar.

The projects I could play were in 44.1K, and the ones I couldnt play were in 48K. I could open a new project in 44.1, but if I tried to do it in 48K, Sonar would error out with the same error I was getting earlier. After some poking around, I found a software driver on the PC for the Firepod, which was set for 44.1. I set it to 48K, set sonar to default at 48K (and this time no error) and now everything plays fine. Thanks for the suggestions, guys!
