Cool tune Walt! I like the way it evolves throughout as well. The only thing that bothered me was the EP that sort of stuck on a single note for a bit. It seemed a little loud at that point.

Great production Walt! The only thing I could pick out was I might try and seperate the bass a bit more from the mids...the bass doesn't seem extremely defined...it isn't bad either, just something small I picked up on. Maybe roll off some of those lows at a slightly higher frequency or maybe some of the bass "bump" is in some of the mid ranges...without looking at an analyzer I'm not sure which of the frequencies are involved. It might have more to do with the type of bass selected too. The bass definitly seems to be on the lower range with not much upper bass energy and maybe that is making it seem like it has less presence. I didn't read the other comments so I hope I'm not directly contradicitng other advice :)

Long live Groove Salad!!! I say just send them a copy, they'll come to their senses and play it eventually.

Was really intrigued by the vocals...a synthetic singer, what a world.  The difference between her short notes and sustains is really interesting, I kind of wanted to hear her come back in towards the end of the track for a refrain.  De-tuning her could make for some interesting moments too - maybe for future projects.  Good sounds and use of a variety of textures.

Clint - thanks bud, always good to hear from you

dcumpian - thanks Dan.  Do you mean the one "sharper" note in the intro, or more in general?

Starise - thanks Tim.  I will definitely be doing some more contouring of the bass freqs for the next remix.

emeraldsoul - yeah Tom, I may just do that.  Thanks for the encouragement. :)  But not before the remix...

jonboper - thanks for taking a listen Jon!  There's still quite a lot for me to learn about how to use vocaloids effectively.  I didn't want to do too much with her on my first attempt, but I will likely become more adventurous in future projects.

daryl1968 - thanks man.  Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to find just the right instrument/sound for a part, and I spend a lot of time on that.  Fortunately, it's fun learning more about the synths in the toolbox (and I'm lucky to have several good ones).  Once the sounds are chosen, that's when the hard part (for me, anyway) begins.  After decades of producing songs that are verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-chorus, I'm really trying to get away from that for my more recent projects.  However, I've still got a lot to learn about arranging in my new chosen genre of chill/ambient/groove/EDM.  But I'm having fun too.  It's all about the journey...

Walt,

I'm at work at the moment, and Soundcloud is "banned" (the bastards), but it is right before you pull the EP back and add another instrument. If I remember right, it was about 25-30% into the song.

Dan

Nice job. I don't really gravitate to all instrumental but the texture and tones are really good.  Nice feel and it kept my interest nicely. I think there may be a touch too much overdrive on the drum sound. Bottom is really good.

Excellent track Walt. Love the elec piano, the arp synths and the stereo effect on the percussion, sounds great through headphones. Nice melodic sequence at 1.53. Not sold on the vocaloid lady, she sounds a bit weird...

Thanks Rimshot, and jamesg1213.

I've just posted a remix, incorporating many of the suggestions above.  Thanks everyone!
