That if someone of inferior skills? Now let's face it, we're all some of it better and some of us worse? I understand this, which I why I value people saying push this part, or pull this part, or this other part what were you thinking. 
 
Why is it that someone would submit something "arguably" for criticism, and then take proper offence to being criticized? Isn't this why we post our tune here? It's a forum of VERY talented people...
 
Many people can make really good recommendations on what you might should improve/work on. We've all seen this, we get something to where we think it's pretty good? Submit it to the forum (lots of smart people) and you get lots of opinions about howo it may be improved, most good. 
 
I learned this "many years agol" And have had the chance to benefit from some of the feedback. 
 
I consider myself fairly talented? However, I have no delusions that what I hear is always good, let alone the best way to to something, so I am CONSTANTLY open to other ears, ideas recommendations, critiques, etc... On how I may improve. 
 
I've improved much by people pointing out faults, people who I respect and trust. 
 
The bottom line here is we all would love praise, but if it isn't perfect? Praise is not what we need. People with good ears who can spot inconsistencies in our work are the biggest and best allies we have. Support them, entourage them Don't allow the fact that they may point out, that shoud be an AFlat, vs. an A become a point of contention with a pre-madona? We're all hear to get better and improve our craft, and we should WELCOME input from people with experiences? (My 2 cents)

i mean, as long as the comments are not directly offensive?? I would rather someone comment on one of my posts with a way to improve it than anything else., I get the boy tomorrow and he'll be singing one I've been tracking "for weeks." Hope to have it posted by this weekend. 

If it's clear that someone can't sing, but at least they're trying, then it's better to criticize their recording technique, choice of effects, over/under use of reverb/compression, etc. rather than bluntly pointing out "Hey you can't sing, it doesn't matter what you do to this you'll not improve it..."  That serves no purpose at all.
 
I know I can't sing,  I know I'm not a virtuoso guitarist, I know a break-dancing tortoise has a better sense of rhythm than me on a drum kit,  I'm an engineer.  Maybe not the best, or anyway near the best, so if I record myself playing it's because I like recording and that's what this forum is ultimately about.  It's not about musician ship or being able to hit a top A while hanging upside down drinking a glass of water.
 
It is really great to hear some fantastic musicians on these forums, but please remember there are those of us lesser mortals who are not so gifted that also like to record.

True story - David Soul, from Starsky and Hutch, released a single way back when, that actually charted really well.
 
What very few folks knew, was the degree of difficulty in getting his vocals tracked on key (not flat).
 
David had a nice voice, and it was a well-written and mixed song, but he did not at the time (for whatever reason) have a good ear for his pitch, and this resulted in them literally having to piece together the vocals essentially one note at a time.
 
If they would have given him the unvarnished truth, he may have walked away from the song.  Instead - but without lying to him, the producer and engineer patiently worked with him, in a constructive manner, and though the sessions were long, the end result was a pretty good pop song.
 
I heard the above from the producer and engineer that worked on that song with David, and I have always remembered the lesson there - that with constructive - but kind - criticism, a problematic song can be transformed into a winner.  Even if 'winning' for a given artist isn't a charted single, it if meets the goals of the singer/writer/performer, then it is still a winner for them.

Everyone should be encouraged regardless of their skill level. No one should be hesitant to post their songs for fear of ridicule. None of us are world-class songwriters and world-class performers and world-class engineers. Even the best of us at one of those things is weak in at least one of the others. Ultimately, it's not about blowing the world away with your awesome talent, but rather the simple joy of creating something you can call your own. 
 
Egalitarianism aside, however, I have to agree with the OP's basic premise: if you're not willing to put yourself out there and accept criticism along with praise, you're not going to get any better at it!
