I'm looking for a huge, wide, warm synth that sounds great on long low notes - something like the one used on Last of the Mohicans sound track. Can any of you synth nerds suggest what I should use?

I am newbie to synths, but the last few months have come to like the basses in Dimension Pro. Am amazed and the bass quality. Play "Circumventor" in the signature link. Weird, but fun sounds. Good Luck!

Thanks I will check out Dimension Pro. I must have an earlier different version though, I don't have a Signature link and I couldn't find Circumventor anywhere.

I'd think something Moog-like would fill the bill. Try the free Minimogue, or Diva if you have a few bucks to spend.

The sound I think you are looking for is Analog Pad and most synths have the patch. There are some good digital imitations around now. But pick up a used analog synth for the real deal.   The Roland Juno did it well, I also have a Korg Poly 8000? that is analog and that's what it does best,,, we call them Stadium shakers, Pink Floyd stuff. 

For huge and wide, HG Fortune comes to mind. Incredible cheap, massive sounding synths. Like STS-33 in the free classics pack. They are running some sales now too. www.hgf-synthesizer.com

I have owned more analog synths than I care to mention. I also have some of the best plugins around. The virtual instruments can do everything and I mean everything sound wise that any hardware analog synth can do. Floor shaking and all. Check out companies like Uhe (Diva) for example and you will see what I mean.

It is OK to get a real analog synth but only if you want one. They have their issues too. They will start breaking down and parts are getting harder to get everyday. There are even some fantastic free VST's out there that sound earth shaking too.

That soundtrack you mentioned sounds orchestral or real. Sometimes orchestras can sound like the most amazing analog synth pads. But when they are doing that that is a very lush sound. Synths can do it though.
