I have a need to reinstall Sonar x2 but all the audio and data files and sample data etc, are installed to a separate drive...

What are the recommendations for reinstalling JUST the Sonar program files and not deleting everything off the 2nd drive and starting again?

Reason for the q is afaik, the sonar install routine ones not give the option for this....

Thanks

what i typically do is install using defaults and set up symbolic links to the file paths where i move the data.  if i ever need to reinstall i just unlink the locations and create the original directories.
you could try installing to default paths and deleting the new install data and linking to your current location.  might be worth a shot.

Just uninstall Sonar and re-install it. do not install over the existing one. If your audio and samples on a separate hard drive, they are safe. I'm also sure you have back ups of all your audio anyways, so you are 123.69% safe.

The uninstalling process does not touch your sample and audio (CWP projects)

FYI: If you have any custom plugin folders or custom native plugin presets saved, you should move them into another folder and then move them back or just direct sonar to them after the install is done.

What I would like to know is can you do a fresh install and not have it unpack all the content that you already have on your system. In my case I have all my Dim Pro, Session Drummer, and RXP files on a different drive. If I ever have to reinstall is it possible to just install the vst stuff and not the content?

Thanks CJ - yes, you are correct on all points

I was more concerned with trying to minimise the Sonar install as all the samples, shared data, midi data audio projects etc etc etc, are ALL on drive 2.  What I was hoping to achieve was  is an installation of JUST the Sonar program itself...from the replies so far, seems this is not possible as it is a fixed install routine..

I think what I will do instead is set it all up, and then run an image for later (if necessary) re-installation, as the programs drive (probably like most here) also serves as the internet drive, games drive and just about anything else I can throw at it

So it occasionally needs a BIG clean out, and in my experience no restore points, registry cleaners or other 3rd party "utilities" can do the job better than simply re-loading a disk image...

I usually only image a standard W7 install with all updates - keeps it small, but yeah, maybe doing the install of Sonar and THEN an image might save this hassle....at least that way all the links from within the app are maintained, as are all the VST's that need authorisations/activations..

Thanks guys, you have really helped crystallise this for me

Cheers

Not without some serious registry tweaking and manual removal of some folders Cakewalk like so many Windows programs is not the best at totally removing everything...
