2 registry entries are not really that much, the other step is saving you presets.

more than half of those steps are just basic steps like "open Command prompt"
or  "hold down windows key plus + R", exc.

almost every program leaves behind traces in the registry.
I wouldn't blame the installer.

I do agree with you about uninstall software though, I use it for everything, I use ur uninstaller.
though ive heard good things about revo.

Personally I never use them....I am pretty cool with tweaking the registry, and once you learn the "usual suspects" for where this stuff gets left, it's pretty straightforward.

btw Chuck, great tutorial for registry newbs too...bravo! Well written, and more importantly - correct!!

Cheers

missed this, thank you joden.

most of that is from cakewalks tech support, I just tweaked a few lines and explained the process of why start up services need to be disabled.

thanks again for taking note :)

My concern with just recklessly removing all startup services is that someone not too aware of what they're doing could find themselves missing services
and not know what or why.

In the case of an antivirus service, I can agree with that one, but instructions could say to disable those.

I've just experienced the situation where my Norton Internet Security will blatantly delete the "01_Read_This_First.exe" file of the X2 download as a dangerous file.
I've had to set its properties to read only or else Norton just keeps deleting it.

I'm mildly curious about who's at fault here.

its a dual sword paul.

its either leave startup service on and chance the install going array or forgetting to turn some services back on.

I did write up a new one though here
