@Charlie - I agree take lanes need some tweaking, but I've not seen the T 0 behaviour since the X2a update.

I got into the habit of always opening take lanes on a track before recording, so don't know if I'm still doing this without noticing.  I will have a look next time I'm tracking.

Sorry for the mis-info Strammy.

No problem Mike.

As I mentioned above in reply to Karl, I thought I'd already updated to X1a

Senior moment!

Nothing to see here, move along

That empty big stripe at the top labeled "14";

Did Cakewalk just put that stripe there to waste a whole bunch of display real estate?

Or

Is the complete waste of display space a result of half baking Take Lanes with a bunch of characteristics that no one actually took the time to think about?

I'm guessing a bunch of both went into this botch job.

best regards,
mike

your right I totally missed the whole point of this thread.
getting old sux, confusion.
I would have benefitted from skipping this thread.

take lanes is about one fix away from being a great feature and in my opinion.
im sure there are some things im probably missing as well as far as its features and using them.
its one of the only things I dis-like about x2.
even stability has been great for me.

just a feature id like to see improved.

Yup.  Personally I think that track headers come in handy.   Whether or not lanes are displayed.

Sorry for the mis-info Strammy.
My Recording rig is so unstable at the moment that I'm afraid I'll throw it on the floor every time I try recording so I haven't turned it on in 2 weeks.

Apologies to you too Keni.
When I can get my issues sorted I'll still send you those grooves.

Mike

Not to worry Mike.... We'll get to it in due course i'm sure...

More important is what's going on with your rig? What is happening that is so unstable? I know I've got major issues with Lanes, and other than the PC, I've found very little in X that I prefer over 8.5.3 other than a few shortcuts and the likes which could have easily been added to 8.5.3....   But my system is relatively stable and I can work... I get occiassional crashes, but nothing that has caused any more difficulty than re-starting Sonar...

What's up?

You've missed an update Steve. X2a is build 351 which fixed the T0 bug. No major changes on lanes, but that bug is gone.

Hi Karl...

I'm running X2a and I still get blank tracks added if I don't open lanes before recording.... Luckily, not soloed tho... ;-)

I too search every day for an X2b release... Sadly...

Keni

Are they "T0" lanes Keni? If not it might just be your recording settings. I personally haven't seen T0 lanes since X2a - sorry if it's still happening for others though.

Hi Karl...

I don't recall if they are still named T0, but I get empty lanes created if I loop record without having Lanes exposed before I enter record...

Honestly tho it's a bit inconvenient, I'm far more disturbed with Lanes themselves as I have nothing but dislike for them even if the bugs were fixed....

I'm more certain with every passing day that this was done to deal with touchscreen issues and it hurts to know that.... I doubt if I will be touch-capable anytime in the forseeable future, nor do I really care to be as I don't find it an advantage... I have an iPad and a iPod Touch and tho it seems intuitive, it's more often counter productive for me... Especially when I need detai8led work of any kind...

From what I had read a few years back, Microsoft "changed stride" due to the popularity of touchscreen iPhone/Pad/Pod from voice control to touch control....

Windows 7 ended up to be a cleaned up version of Vista instead of voice which got pushed to Win8 which got changed to touch....

Very sad... (for me)...

Sorry to rant again.... It just slipped out! ;-)

I believe they had to get touch-ready too suddenly (see previous post).... so they quick-cobbled Lanes to get to the gate...

Even though I still prefer Lanes over Layers in the overall scheme of things, that does make sense - I can't see Layers ever working with touch, at least when there were more than a few.  And with touch being a focus for X2(a) there had to be some method for dealing with comps, which was accomplished with Lanes.  Now we just need some refinement so that those without touch (like me) can get even more out of Lanes.  'Cause even though I may prefer them to Layers, I find them far from ideal.
