Been running Windows 10 home version for a month now. No glitches, hangs or other performance issues. I researched various articles explaining how to minimize the snooping and decided it was worth it to sacrifice some functionality for more privacy. Mostly I didn't like the idea of Windows keeping up a steady stream of traffic on my already feeble broadband connection. Overall, I think it's pretty solid.

Cool.  Thanks for the replies!  It's been a year so I thought I'd let you guys kick the tires.  Being in IT for almost 45 years(!) I know not to grab the latest and greatest OS until the bumps have been worked out.

Sounds like the solidest Microsquish OS yet so I think I'll give it a try.

I only upgraded my laptop (from 8.1) a week or two ago. Based on my experience I'm going to leave the DAW on 8.1 (if it ain't broke...).

What I've experienced is memory issues with 10 eating RAM. The first problem was the superfetch service causing the kernel to grow to a couple of GB (that's GB with a "G"). Since disabling superfetch (which isn't necessary as I have an SSD drive but MS turns it on anyway), the kernel process stays at 144 KB (that's with a "K", not an "M").

But now I'm noticing a gradual increase in memory usage not directly associated with any process, which at times amounts to something on the order of 50MB a minute. I haven't tracked down the cause yet, but the memory seems to be going to what's known as "Session Private" memory, which is memory (perhaps Windows resources) which is owned by the logon session, not any particular process. Which makes it much harder to track down the cause.  It certainly is something that didn't happen under 8.1 with nothing but the OS having changed.

If you Google it, you will find many people are having memory problems with Windows 10, but often they are either dismissed or explained by random speculation. Many other people of course either aren't having these problems or haven't noticed them, so it is what it is.

Thanks Drew, I'll take a look and see about this SuperFetch Service......tbh, I was one of those people that didn't notice as it didn't (seem) to affect anything.

I only notice these things because I'm OCD enough that I would not only notice something is amiss with memory, but network traffic as well.

And IME Big Brother's historical competence level makes me think of a different kind of bug than the kind you're suggesting.

I must be lucky because I've never had a problem with upgrading Windows since Windows '95. Even the unpopular versions (Vista etc). After a few days of learning new features, I forget that I'm even using an operating system and that's how it should be. Windows 10 was no exception. Novelty wore off after a few days and then it is what it is - just another Windows.

Also, how do you prevent it from snooping around all your data?

I don't know that I have.

Like my mayte Jaymes, I couldn't care less, really.

IIRC you can do so more on Pro than Home.

I definitely won't be using the Home version.
