If that Reddit Q&A is legit, Sonar was losing millions, so why would a company buy it?

How to make 10 million on DAW software, start with 20 million...

As a longtime Cakewalk Music Creator and then Sonar user I will be very sad to see it go and find it hard to contemplate jumping ship to another DAW platform (mixed metaphors) but surely there must be some sense in another DAW related company at least looking at acquiring the current Cakewalk client/user data base and offering a discounted introduction to jump ship before the good ship Cakewalk sinks beneath the waves (those metaphors again)

I wonder if someone has already said that about 307.988798980770 times already.

Long, long (long) time ago, my favorite MIDI sequencer was Bars & Pipes on the Amiga.  Had it synced up with my Tascam 80-8 using SMPTE.  The great thing about it was the infinitely flexible routing.  It had MIDI routing capabilities that the major DAWs are just now providing.  It also had an open architecture so that third party developers could write their own tools to plug into the pipeline.

Microsoft bought them out and the product was never seen again.  I have seen bits and pieces of their ideas in products, but the product disappeared.

That being said, I would agree that the Cakewalk IP might be purchased, but don't expect to see it released as a product as we currently know it.

I also used Bars & Pipes with an Amiga sync’ed with a Fostek A8 8 track 1/4” Tape recorder back in the 80s. Still have the A8. Used the setup for about 20 years.

My wish list for the future of cakewalk would be for a company like Sweetwater to buy it. They are steadfast, long term musician oriented environment. I think it would be a immediate and tragic fail if Microsoft or some other blind profit based conglomerate bought it.

That’s an amazing idea, hadn’t thought of that scenario! Especially since Craig is well regarded there too! Hmmmm.....

I like this idea much better than someone like microsoft or adobe as has been suggested. Both companies scavenge and kill products
