I'm running Sonar X1 Producer in 64 bit mode. I want to load a 32 bit vst only and try to use it in 64 bit mode using BitBridge. My question is do I have to add "scan vsts" in the x86 vst plugin folder? If so, will that also add all of the programs that come in both 32 and 64 bit? For example will it now show the 32 bit version of Vintage Warmer as well as the 64 bit version or is it smart enough not to show duplicates?

Certainly someone is running 32 bit plugins in 64 bit mode, no?

You can disable plugins from within the plug in manager.  I don't run many dual versions so don't know the definitive answer

create a folder in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk

call it:Vstplugins32

install your plug ins .DLL to this folder.

go to plug in manager, add the line:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins32
restart or rescan sonar.
good to go.

this keeps everything nice and clean.
by default sonar does not crate a 32 bit plug in folder in sonar, it only creates a Vstplugins folder in:
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins
this is where all your plug ins are stored, I don't like mixing my 3rd party plug ins inside this folder.
because then it turns in to a mix of mongrels,
I like them all in their own file, you will too.
also keep in mind, your only installing the dll to this folder not the plug ins .EXE (though sometimes its impossible to get around that)
and that's okay, but when ever possible, when your plugins install wizard starts it asks you where to install the plug in (that means .EXE) That goes in program files (86) for 32 bit plug ins.
press next, it asks you where and what type you want to install (VST2 / VST 3 / RTAS) and direct explorer to the vstplugins32 file.

some older plug ins wont give you the choice where to install the .DLL this is where the separate plug ins folder also comes in handy,
you need now to only find the .DLL and drop it in the 3rd party folder.

I know this might sound confusing, but I've explained this very thorough so you could understand every aspect.

as for your other question, there are no double versions of plug ins in sonar, vintage warmer 32 and 64, only the version you installed.
i believe vintage channel is only a 64 bit sonar version. (not vintage warmer, im not sure what is that ? PSP plug ins or something ?)

your question is a little confusing.

Vintage Channel is a 32-bit plugin that processes the audio as 64 bits. There is no 64-bit plugin for Sonar's Vintage Channel.  Running Sonar X2 (64-bit) will run Vintage Channel using BitBridge.  This will happen automatically. Running any 32-bit plugin under 64-bit Sonar X2 will utilize BitBridge. This includes third party plugins.  Most 32-bit plugins will work fine using BitBridge. There are some that run better using JBridge.  JBridge is a third party program.

VST plugins have a .DLL file extension.   Files with a EXE file extension are "executable programs". They could be an installer or a standalone version on the plugin. Standalone versions of plugins are common with guitar emulation (such as Waves' GTR, Overloud's TH2, Guitar Rig) and soft synths (such as Waves' Element, Cakewalk's Dim Pro).

If you install both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Sonar you will have both versions of the Cakewalk supplied plugins installed. They will be installed in different folders.
