So when exporting from FCP the audio files shouldnt be embdedded into ONE OMF file, they should be referenced externally, theres an option in FCP to do this upon export.

btw forget about interchanging settings such as automation, pan, gain control.....amongst others....

It usually fails.....

PT 11 is going to address this between different PT versions but I'm afraid Sonar lags well behind on this type us useage......

God knows I keep sending them suggestions on how to help us guys that work with video to improve.....(Come on Sonar, better cross platform support with OMF's and Post Production work in general etc etc etc!!)

Thats not true...Open Media Framework deal with an interchangeable cross platform timeline data in reference to mainly SMPTE.

I use Sonar, Pro Tools, Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Also Digital Performer....I have issues (niggly ones) from one platform to another But let me stress...YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPEND 500 bucks on an adaptor.

this is simply not true.

Sonar. When I go to change the 'Files of Type' under File>Import>Audio, .omf is not available

That is normal, as OMF is not an audio file. Wave and AIFF are audio files. If your importing an OMF file into Sonar from Pro tools. yuo need to export it form Pro tools as an OMF and you need to ahve this $500 adapter for pro tools to do so.

I think this is true.    I think you are misinterpreting CJ's post.  Ptools to work with OMFs requires a certain level of Ptools.  I can't send an OMF to some of the Ptools guys I deal with when they are working out of their home studio because of this.  I'm not sure if it is an adapter or a key or sofware plugin.  The choice of the word "adapter" might be off,  but the concept is correct.

no, really....not being harsh but I can export PT 6,7,8,9 and 10 into Sonar on my own setup! Just in OMF land that is! but as I said before, dont try and embedd things!

As i recall, OMF's are ADOBE technology (groan) and not Avid but its become industry standard.....

Can you imagine a great day when all DAWS *certain* project files are interchangeable like MIDI files....*gets his head out of the clouds*
