I have been using Sonar Le 8.5.2 for a couple of years and thought I would down load the Sonar X2 trial. All good, but tried to run one of my LE projects to test it out and it is really distorted and crackly. Is this a compatibility issue. Is the earlier LE file just not supported by the new software or is this an installation/setup thing. Regards Mark

Its a driver issue. You need to configure your sound card drivers and driver mode

If your system has ASIO drivers, like from an external audio interface, then you need to tell Sonar to use a driver mode of ASIO, and also make sure the Sample Rate in Sonar matches the one for the interface.

If you are instead using some built-in sound card, then you may want to consider buying an external audio interface.

Also, be sure that the sample rates match. If one was set at 48k and one at 44.1, you'll get a bunch of noise.

All that above in other words: Check that your X2 trial has all the same settings in the "Preferences" dialogue as your functioning 8.5 LE has in its "Options".

In my former upgrades there's always been a prompt pop-up for copying the settings of the existing installation, but maybe that's not the case now.

Sonar X2 may need different driver settings, as X2 is a different program than Sonar 8.5LE. Just see what works best for X2 and you'll be fine. It also depends on the project at hand (track count + plugins count)
