  • How to create multiple 'simple instrument track' with VSTi?

Hello.

I'm using X2 and wonder if there is a method to create multiple 'simple instrument track' with VSTi that has multiple audio output such as Kontakt, Play, Stylus, Omnisphere, Engine, etc.

Simple instrument track is one track that has both audio and midi track so it is more convenient than saperated two tracks(1 audiot track + 1 midi track).

If 3 instruments are loaded in Kontakt and they are assigned to individual audio output (1,2 and 3,4 and, 5,6), only 1,2 output works with simple instrument track and I can't make 2 more simple instrument track for audio output 3,4 and 5,6.

I searched the forum and found that creating simple instrument track for multiple audio output is not possible in X1. Is it still impossible in X2? or is there any tip, tricks, alternative method?
Please give me some advice.

Thanks

According to many forum users here, simple instrument tracks have various issues (I myself know a very annoying issue relating to Solo button grouping). So if you like the way it displays only one midi track in the Track view and only one audio track in the Console view (which I do), use the regular midi & audio tracks for Kontakt, etc. and hide all audio tracks in the Track view and hide all audio tracks in the Console view and save as a screenset (which I do).

I think you mean - and hide all audio midi tracks in the Console view and save as a screenset.

You can't use Simple Instrument Tracks with multiple outputs, but when using multiple outputs, you can put all the tracks into a track folder to keep them organized. And the folder will allow you to hide the tracks when necessary.

Thanks for the advice.

I hope that Cakewalk release new patch with some improvement in simple instrument track, etc.

There is no reason to fix simple instruments tracks. Use separate MIDI and separate audio tracks for multiout synths.  If you use the synth rack and have the synth property dialog popup you can select just how the synth should be inserted in the project.

FWIW, I use the synth rack almost exclusively. This allows me to treat a soft synth just as I would a hardware synth. I just add MIDI tracks and point to the soft synth and set the channel I want to use. If you've never used hardware, this might not make any sense to you, but it is great for me.

Think about it: The purpose of SITs is to get the MIDI and audio output on one track to save space.
If you use a VST with 16 outputs, which means 16 different instruments each having it's own MIDI track, how could they be packed on one track??  You don't record your guitar on the same track with bass and drums because you want to edit them separately. It's the same thing. I don't quite understand what you're aiming at.
