64-bit, win8.

mostly stable.

had issues with ssd4, mostly resolved, still occasional crash there.

but out of nowhere i'll get a crash trying to ctrl-drag clips or doing some other mundane task.

ctrl-s is my religion...

Windows 8 x64 here,

Mostly stable, but I'm having a nightmare with screensets causing audio dropouts when changing and also taking nearly 10 seconds to change to the main screenset (#1) from any others. Incredibly frustrating.

joakes : " no 32 bit plugs that I know of (I deliberately um-installed what 3rd party plugs I had that were 32 bits. I trust Sonar didn't install me any ....)"

You are aware that all (?) Sonar plugins (not synths) are 32-bit ?
Ah that is not true. The only plugins from CW that come only in 32 bits are DX plugins and can't be loaded into a 64 bit host. All others are either VST 64 bit or DX 64 bit. Sonitus for example are 64 bit DX. There are a couple that are only 32 bit VST those are not controlled by CW. Perfect Space and VC 64 Vintage Channel.

I hope you're right, John, but I don't think you are :-)

My research shows the Sonitus plugins being re-released by Cakewalk in 2004. (there's a lot of really old stuff in Sonar).
I doubt plugins would have been 64-bit back then.

As for the xxx-64 plugins, they're (apparently) 32-bit plugins with 64-bit internal processing, which explains the 64.

Please, someone, prove me wrong.

rock solid @ 64 bit / win 7

I do long sessions with lowest buffer settings and can go for hours (tracking audio, fiddling with MIDI and synths, serious mixing with lots of plugs)

Occasional quirks I had since X2a came out were due to windows hick-ups or when pushing Kontakt 5 really hard (full rack with several GBs of samples loaded)

I'm a bit cautious, though, when it comes to using 32 bit plugs ... these may be troublemakers

Been a user since the ancient days, up until the latest release of X2 it's been rock solid. Since than I hate to say it's somewhere between somewhat quirky and unusable, even to the point where I'm now checking out Studio One.  I've done the bug report thing, but I'm beaten down. I just want a mostly solid product.  Don't know if Studio One is solid but I'm looking for possible alternatives. Thanks

Given that the majority of folks here so far are having a great experience, I wonder what it is that makes things so finicky for others. It must work otherwise power users wouldn't be saying its rock solid.

What I'd love to know is what's causing people like myself have these quirky/instability issues. Obviously ( I think) it's configuration problems but what???. Million dollar question I guess.

The manual lists which are 32 bit only. Keep in mind that if its a VST and it is not loaded under bitbrige it is a 64 bit VST. If it is a DX plugin to run in Sonar 64 bits it has to also be 64 bits.

I think you are referring to the acquisition and promotion of the Sonitus plugins. They have been available as VST for purchase but they are DX for the bundled plugins with Sonar.

All you have to do is look in your folders and see where they have been placed. 64 bit plugins will have been placed in the 64 bit program folder.
