When I record guitar and then process the audio clip to 50℅ and pitch raised by 12 (to obtain the Les Paul effect) the process takes ages and on play back I'm getting a horrible hollow after sound with the original signal. On another DAW I have I don't get this at all its def a Sonar issue.
Any tweaks with AUDIO that might help?

Les Paul did that using tape. It was easy: just speed up or slow down the tape. I used to do it myself when I was working with tape. Its not so easy in the digital world. I'm not sure Sonar can do that without some external plug-in help. I'm don't know if Sonar's AudioSnap can double or half the speed without distorting the results. I'll be interested in what others answer on this one.

I have always had pour results with any digital pitch shifting. I have tried a few different software solutions and most create a bunch of artifacts, I think it's the nature of manipulating a complex wave form with math and number crunching. You say you found software that works perfectly, please share!

Thanks for replies....at the moment the best thing I've tried  is very simply Magix Audio lab ....there's an editor on there where you can drop a clip from sonar, do the processing (which is very smooth...and quick compared to Sonar) export the clip back into Sonar. There's also pretty good effects on Audio Lab, a very cheap but good audio prog. So far this is the best way to do "Les Paul"  half speed for  me.

I haven't messed with audio snap, but groove clips get really bad beyond about 15%.
When you slow down a digital audio file, what you are really doing is spreading the spaces between the samples.
Those voids must be filled with interpolated data to sound smooth.
How well the software handles this is the key.
So far, I'm pretty happy with this one:
