Thanks for all the replies to my Dell 17R thread.  After getting some insight with audio problems on the Dell forum I'm looking at HP so I figured I'd start a new thread.  I found a good deal on this ($700):

I would swap out the HD on this one to a 7200, a faster spin ;)
but this looks like a nice rig VV, its also a nice price, these bad boys usually run up to 800 bucks or more
I also don't like putting sonar + my OS on anything larger than a 500 but this myth has been de-bunked.
I just think its a lot of data recall on such a large disk.
I had this problem once where I was using a 7200 1TB and it was choking.
I consulted with one of my mad scientist buddys and he suggested I pull it out and use it as a sample library and get myself a 350/500GB for sonar and OS.
problem solved.
 
but I know other that will disagree with this.so be aware of it buddy that's all.

A setup I like, though I don't know how easy it is to do with this model, is to have the internal drive to be an SSD
with the system and programs etc, then a HDD in a caddy in the optical drive tray.

And as Charlie says, replace the HD with a 7200 rpm one. My daughter's laptop has a 5400 rpm drive and it is slooooow.

I might replace the HHD down the road but for what I'll do on this system 5400rpm will work fine.  I'll never have more than 8-10 tracks and I can do that on my current 5400rpm drive.

yes, just saw your reply to me on your other thread, didn't know it was going to be for light use, you should be fine.
 
if you do find its choking out though,just remember what I said about the 1TB HD's.
you should be okay, but want to throw out there as a thought.
