  • Random midi notes get selected (p.2)

I think I know the problem and I think I have a solution. (That would be a first for me on these boards!)

It may be a bug, but when you lasso the top of a velocity line it selects the note. So if the velocity lines are up in the area of the notes that you are trying to select the other notes will be selected also. Lower velocity note won't be selected.

There's an easy solution for you: If you click on a note on the piano scale to the left it selects all of those notes. If you hold the shift key and click on all of the notes that you want to select- just gliss along the notes you want- and you will select all of those notes.

Hope this helps.

hmm... I didn't know that but it has still happened to me after I figured out how to hide the the controller/velocity lines. Good to know though.

There is definitely a selection bug but it only seems to affect a small amount of users. I have no idea what could possibly be causing it for us unlucky few. I have a pretty standard system/set up and is most definitely intermittent.

X1c

I just noticed this. Are you still on X1c? If so you should get the d patch. However I never noticed this problem until I upgraded to X2. Cheers.

I never thought about it too much before, but I can see some usefulness for that "feature". If you're editing a midi performance and decide that the high velocity notes are a little too aggressive, you can select all of the notes above a certain velocity and bring them all down together.
You can pan the piano roll so that all of the notes are out of the frame and only the velocity lines are showing. Then lasso the tops of the offending velocities. Pan back down to see the notes and, using one of the selected notes, pull the velocities down to where you want them.

Could be useful, no?

Say, Beep, how do you hide the velocity lines?

It's been a while so I forget the exact way I did it but I think you have to select Show Controller Pane from one of the PRV menus which then isolates them in that pane (getting them off the PRV grid) then just drag the divider down until all you see is the PRV grid. There is also an option to hide the controllers in the PRV menus but IIRC I couldn't get that to work properly. Sorry if that's vague but I've been away from the DAW for a while. Cheers.

Ah, yes, that's how it's done. That could be handy. Thanks.

I've just checked back in and I do appreciate the help. Jonesey they're all on the same midi channel. Doug and Beepster I'll give that a try tomorrow. Sounds like it could be the problem...Like your quote Doug. He had another great line in that song "take the Greyhound, it's a dog of a way to get around". Big Chapin fan!

Ah, why didn't I think of that? I remember I hated the behavior and decided to hide the velocity lines (by Shift+C) when working on the notes only.

Are you sure you weren't drinking or sleeping at that time, Beep?

Yeah, Harry wrote a lot of great songs. I was a big fan, too.
