Hi,

I have X2 Producer, and I'm a little confused as to the difference between Cakewalk Sound Center vs Dimension Pro.
The advertizing says that Cakewalk Sound Center is based on the Dimension Pro sound engine.
Is Dimension Pro more full-featured, then?

I notice that DSF sells add on packs for both synthesizers, so if I want to expand my sound set, I'm not sure whether to get the Sound Center expansion packs or the ones for Dimension Pro.

Thanks!
Jonathan

Stick with Dim Pro. Sound Center is a very limited player. It is really meant to promote CW's other synths.

There is also no way to get Sound Center to play anything other that it's own samples, unless I've missed something.

I thought it might be useful as a sample librarian.

DimPro will play anything.

Paul P: Do you know if the DSF library for Soundfonts and Dim Pro are the same format then?

I know the Soundfonts are SF2 and it says for use with the SFZ player,
but I would like something I could use in both Dim Pro and Alchemy.

Jonathan1967:  I've been checking them out for just a little while and the two almost seem redundant.
But if you go to the DSF site and compare the two libraries, the Dim Pro library sound quite a bit better.
There is also the fact that Dim Pro allows you to have four elements for creating new sounds.
It reminds of my old Proteus gear in that respect but with even more control.
I sort of look at it as the "Toyota" and Omnisphere as the "Lexus"

For the money, go with the Dim Pro libraries.

DSF doesn't seem to mention what format their samples are in. I would hope they are wav files. Maybe you can ask them.

I agree with you and John to go with Dim Pro samples.

Jonathan, have you exhausted the DimPro samples that you already have ?
There are an awful lot of them, and there are free expansion packs from Cakewalk.

Are the DFS libraries any good?
Do you have any favorites?

One thing I'm looking for in particular is a nice set of orchestral string patches for 70's type popular song arrangements.

When I was playing around with them the other day, there didn't seem to be that many samples. Perhaps the patches are in multiple file folders or something.
I will check again when I get home.  Thanks.

Paul,

When I downloaded X2 Producer, there was an executable called "05_SONAR_X2_Producer_Additional_Content.exe."
Are those expansion packs included in that additional content, or are they something totally different?

Thanks,
Jonathan
