Hi guys! New here.

Been working with Sonar since 6 so I know a little about the software, but I never tried to look for help on the forums... So here I am! I'm having some annoying issues and I don't know if I'm the only one facing this kinda thing with the X2a.

First one: Sonar crashes as soon as I set a loop (when trying fine tune a de-esser or EQ on a vocal track). Even if there are no plugins at all on the project. Happened three times in one week.

Second one: Sonar crashes after trying to copy the LP64_EQ from one track to another. I set the EQ and then copy it by holding ctrl + draggin into another track, as soon as I release the mouse button, crash. Same thing as the other issue... is happening once each couple days.

When it crashes I need to kill the application using the task manager and also restart my audio interface in order to release the audio drivers.

Worth mentioning that I just refreshed my whole computer last weekend. Wiped out the win7 and sonar X1 drive and installed win8 and sonar X2. And this computer doesn't access the internet as well.

Having an avarage of one crash per day is kinda furstrating. Do you guys have any clue or thoughts on that? I'm kinda desperate here. Any help is welcome.

before anything can you post your specs, computer cpu, ram, windows os type and soundcard.
we are just guessing here unless we know what were dealing with.

lets try and figure this out for you :)

Try increasing your buffers when you aren't actually recording. If you haven't optimized your system for audio you might want to look into that. It'd be good to know what your system specs and interface are. I'd imagine X2 is a little beefier than version 6 is so it might be taxing your system more than you're used to.

What a fail... I realized I didn't post my specs right after posting

Is a pretty decent computer... I've been using Sonar 6 some years ago, beepster. wouldn't try to use my current on any old machine. I was running Sonar X1 and Win7 on this machine before refreshing. I really believed that refreshing and upgrading would solve all my issues, but... I'm still having some bad experience.

I say this to folks probably too often without knowing enough... but you can lower your constraints until your problems go away.

For example, you can lower the file write size down to 16 bits from the default of 32 in preferences > Files>
that by itself takes a big load off your machine. You can also try 24 bits.

I find this makes a big difference on my puny laptop. It makes a difference both because of the number of bits to write to the drive, but also b/c of the amount of calculations required to apply fx.

Yeah, your computer should have enough power (what kind of hard drives?). However my system is just as powerful and I still had problems before doing the optimization for audio. There's all sorts of processes and power saving features that can cause problems like you are having. I used the Sweetwater Optimization guide but give tech support a call. It's free and they'll get your system humming. For now try increasing your buffers as I said. I find that helps when editing/mixing. Cheers.

@gswitz... I think worth trying reducing the birthrate. In the end the WAV file is gonna be 16bits either way, but.... is it gonna aftect the quality of my soft synths at all?

@beepster I have the sweetwater guide! I did all the optimization recomended, but I think I'll try the buffer increasing thing for now.

There is a specific step in the Sweetwater Guide that supposedly doesn't play nice with Sonar so maybe that's the problem. Here is the thread I posted when I did my optimization which got some good replies.

You'll have to excuse my n00b posts in that. I was just getting started.

Also check for any driver updates for your gear. You've probably already done that but it's worth mentioning. What AV are you using? Microsoft Security Essentials is probably the best way to go for an audio system. It works well and you don't have to disable it or anything to keep it from interfering with your production work.

aaaand try putting the Performance Module in the Control Bar (right click the Control Bar and select Performance Module until it appears). That way you can keep an eye on what your RAM and CPU are up to as you work.
