Beepster - I still think I would go ahead and install X2a now - it is really quite stable for many, many folks.
And, as long as you save off any user content you created prior to uninstall of X2a to go back to X2, it's really no big deal to clean out the registry and folder remnants from X2a and install a nice new copy. Less than an hour.
The benefits of X2a would be in the large number of fixes and enhancements they made. It's really nice.
AND I PROMISE, if you want to undo an X2a install to go back to X2, I will give you y cell number and have you call me whenever you want and I will work through the whole process for you over the phone - no problem.

This post is very late but thanks for the offer, Bob. You are a kind and generous soul. I should be alright now that I have the back up drive. I've got more than enough room for multiple full images so I can return to any state I choose. Not having that capability was really tying my hands but real life beckoned so the money could not be spared. Now that I know more about how everything works I intend to do a complete wipe of the system and reinstall everything (after backing up everything I want to keep and making an image of things as they are). I kind of made a mess of things by not paying attention to where audio was being sent when I'd do "Save As". I'd always create a new folder on my E drive when starting a project but didn't realize that it would default back to the C drive during Save As so now I've got things willy nilly all over the place as well as tons of empty and "test" folders.
One thing I gotta figure out though is how to set up the ideal default save settings. I know how to actually do it but I'm not sure of the most effective set up. I was under the impression that the best way was to to have the project data saved to the C programs drive and then have the audio saved to a seperate drive (in my case E drive). However I've seen more than a few smart fellows here says that BOTH the project data and the audio data should be saved to the E drive leaving the C drive to only run the actual program. Not sure if this is correct but I'm gonna research it more.
I also have another issue where my darned E drive keeps falling asleep on me despite the fact I THOUGHT I had set Windows up to not do that (nothing else falls asleep on my system except the E drive). Just little things like that. It's good for me to mess with too because I need to learn but without a proper back up option I was terrified to mess with anything lest I break something.
Whatevs... totally off topic but I'm taking a break from some theory studies and thought I'd say thanks for the offer and blather on for a little while. ;-p
