True, but would they erase your data or just access it and see that it's "just songs" and ignore it?  songs and cakewalk project backups can't be liquidated, which is what the thieves will do with your computer that they stole.  they very likely have no interest in the data unless it contains personal information they can use to steal your identity or access your bank accounts or credit cards.

That's the problem. It wasn't just recording projects they stole. They took physical file folders containing credit card statements, receipts, bank statements and who knows what else. On the computer itself was a file containing SSNs for my entire family, credit card numbers, driver license numbers, passwords, software licenses and correspondence. It was encrypted, but I'm sure decryption is just a google search away.

UPDATE: I've just spotted my stolen amplifiers at the Lynnwood Guitar Center. They were tagged as used and being offered at an extraordinarily low price. GC has been notified, said they'd pull them from the floor. Waiting on a callback from the local PD.

Question: I just bought two new ones this week. If I recover the stolen ones, what can I do? I don't need four of them. Hopefully, the retailer will take them back.

Good news!

And I haven't actually tried it, but my I know my WD NAS has FTP support.

That's great news Dave.........is there a trail to find out who sold it to GC?
These punks need to be punished!!

GC would give me no information, said they'd only talk to the police. Got a call back from the local PD and someone's coming over to talk to me. Probably too much to hope for, but wouldn't it be great if the name given to GC was my neighbor...

Drew: thanks for that info. I'll feel a lot better after I've got the security camera fully functional again.

USAA may own the stolen ones now. It would be up to them to collect their property.

This is good news indeed, Dave Hope it leads to the perpetrators. And that they get what they deserve.
All the best.

Still depends on the cops doing their job. Because the store is in an adjacent city, the local PD can't just go there and investigate. I asked if there was any way I could get a name of who sold the amps, they basically said "no". That would be up to the detective, assuming one has been assigned. All the cop would commit to was that he'd update the file.

I have one other possible avenue of investigation. I know someone who used to work in that store, and who still knows a current employee.

I suppose I could start an online bad-mouthing campaign against Guitar Center, but that's already been done many, many times. And they're still pushing $80 Monster cables with every $100 microphone.

Great news! Hopefully, GC requires ID like the pawn shops do.

The cop told me that thieves rarely pawn stuff themselves, usually hiring some homeless junkie to take the risk for a few bucks.
