Another consideration is the PD may ot want to act too soon. They may be collating evidence too hit the perps for a string of offences to endure the courts hand out a significant penalty. You can depend they have stolen from others.

Jesse: thanks for the info. Makes sense that if I encrypted everything locally I could then store the data anywhere with reasonable confidence. I guess when I think about online storage I tend to picture DropBox, which conveniently integrates right into the local file system but doesn't encrypt anything.

It would indeed be interesting to see the store's security footage. But it's unlikely I ever will.

Years ago, my son's debit card was stolen from his bedroom. We knew it had to be one of his friends. Within hours we got a call from Sears security saying the card had just been used to buy stereo equipment. Great, I thought, now we can identify who stole it and at least ban that person from my home. No such luck. The video was given to the local PD and never seen again. When we inquired, they could not tell us what happened to it. We were never invited in to view it, and no arrest was ever made. You'd think Sears would care. You'd think the bank would care. You'd think the police would care. None did.

A few years back my wife's handbag was stolen. Thief drove 30 miles to the nearest town and somehow managed to draw a substantial amount of cash from one of her credit cards. The guy was on CCTV at the ATM, but neither the police nor the bank were interested in following it up. Credit card company accused my wife of colluding with the thief and giving him the PIN for her CC. We fought it and got reimbursed eventually, but stuff like that does add to one's cynicism.

Sears?  Don't get me started.  I will deal with Sears again only when they become the only remaining retail establishment on the planet.

Bit maybe it was TL;DR but you did register the serial numbers  with the manufacturers to prove its yours?

I apologize if this was broached earlier, but one more piece for you , GC might not like the publicity of fencing stolen gear, you might want to reach out above the local store and suggest social media publishing on a wide scale to bring to light their implication in this theft

damn isnt their a lawyer out there who would love to sue a BIG corporation ?

I never send in those product registration cards, but it wouldn't have made much difference anyway. Sweetwater and my local music store were both able to supply serial numbers for the major items, including the amplifiers I spotted in Guitar Center.

I will, however, be diligent in the future about saving receipts, taking photos, and storing that information in a safe place.

The one exception: I was unable to find a receipt for my ADAM monitors and the retailer (Pacific Pro Audio) is no longer in business. Consequently, I have no serial numbers for them.

Now, there were a pair of P-11As in the store that they'd acquired about the same time as the Roland amps. But whereas mine had been pristine, these were really banged up, like they'd been rolling around in the trunk of a car.

Odd for expensive studio monitors to be in such distressed condition, no? Even if those are mine, I don't want them back.

As for harassing GC, I'm holding off on that until I see the need. I will file a report with their local PD tomorrow. If for some reason GC hasn't reported it, then I'd hope the PD would begin my harassment campaign for me. And should that happen, you bet I'll be all over them. But I'll give them the benefit of doubt for now.

It may be weird, but I keep returning to this thread to see if there's been an update just like I'm reading a detective novel!  LOL.

As soon as I saw that SOMETHING had shown up I started feeling optimistic for a happy ending.

For those offering to keep an eye on Craigslist, please do, especially in nearby places such as Portland. At least some of the items are things you don't see often on Craigslist, like my ADAM P11-A monitors or M-Audio subwoofer. My Ventilator Leslie sim is another, as is my TC Helicon VoiceLive unit. Also my Shure KSM-44 microphone isn't something people often sell second-hand.

Thought I'd bump this to keep the list of what to look out for fresh.

Just saw a VoiceLive on MyList () here: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/msg/5597670152.html This comment got my attention: "A steal at $95."

Note that none of the other items were found.

$95 IS a steal, considering that model goes for $800 new. I paid $400 for a used one exactly like it (which later died and now sits on a shelf in case I ever need some footswitches).

But mine's a different model, a VoiceLive Touch. Not a stompbox, but the one that mounts on your mic stand.
