Lessons learned. I have a security camera that used to transmit photos of anyone walking through the door (even in total darkness) to my ftp server in the house, just in case this ever happened. But the server broke down and I couldn't afford to replace it, so the camera was offliine. I had planned to replace the garage door with a steel one, but haven't been able to afford that, either. I have motion-sensor alarms, but the batteries were dead.
Lessons learned. I thought I was isolated here at the end of a private drive and 6' fences all around. I have bars on all the windows. But they apparently walked in because the door hadn't been latched all the way. From the first garage they were able to get into the other two garages and steal the rest of my gear that was in the car.
Two synthesizers, all my microphones, two keyboard amplifiers, all my effects and cables that were in a gig bag. Worst of all, all my projects were on the desktop computer and not backed up because my backup computer had broken. I have only MP3s of the last 12 years' worth of music. All my sample libraries are gone. SONAR is gone. All my plugins are gone. My latest article for SoundBytes is gone. I am so screwed.
Lessons learned. Don't assume you're immune, don't let your security measures lapse, keep photos and serial numbers - and not on the computer likely to be stolen.
