Yeah.... ditto..... I would run that little SNAFU up the flagpole. There's no reason the insurance company and the bank  should be giving you that sort of run around over the check and the names on it. If you have a death certificate that you can send them, that should suffice to get the check deposited. The state insurance commissioner would be able to assist you with this matter I'm sure.  This situation is a fairly common one.  Robberies and break-ins are fairly common (believe it or not) when someone dies. The household is in turmoil and perhaps even empty. Perfect time to steal a few things. It can sometimes be blamed on family members.

Don't be afraid to start making some noise. There's a time to be nice, and there's a time to start demanding that the insurance company and bank do right by you.

Looks like the police are moving forward and they are working the case to it's end. Be patient.... there's more work they still need to do.

Regarding the insurance company and the bank..... they might seem like gigantic opponents right now.... but imagine fighting the airlines because they broke your guitar.....  I'm sure when this was all said and done, United Airlines wished they had paid this guy's claim and gone on with flying people around the world.

With the internet and your talent, and youtube.... write a song and set up an internet campaign to inform people how you were treated once you determine the insurance co isn't going to do the right thing.  It might just work.  It's also very satisfying.

BTW:  Head East.... cool tune with nice keyboard parts. Can't believe you've never heard that song before.

"Gone In 60 Seconds"...the scene; a kid steals a Cadillac with a trunk full of drugs- easy, it had the keys in it. They explained to him why it had the keys in it.

There's always that Dave. Your chance to make a mark. I don't mean it to sound bad but it seems temporary insanity would be a no brainer. Oops...I guess this post blows that all to hell. Sorry.

I was hit many years ago when I was young and crazy. Motorcycle was stolen. I hit the streets and by days end I had it back and could leave it parked with the keys in it. Wife looked at me and had a good laugh when that part of the movie played. Times have changed and if I hit the streets now I'd probably wind up lost trying to find my way home...or doing time. I don't know...either one of those might be better for me than dealing with all the BS you are Dave. Well it's not over so you may have options to consider. You may get more for a couple of bucks to the local boys than working with the system. Might be a chance to make some good contacts. Not all guard dogs are 4 legged.

 I should mention...
What made it so easy for me; Back then it was a fad to wear wrist chains with your name on it. I found one were my ride should have been and when I read the name...it was just down to TCB. Got lucky is all.

When I saw this thread bumped I was hoping to read the thieves had been caught and were scheduled for hanging at sundown.

Oh well, I still have my fingers crossed for you bit.

Still no news from the police or from Guitar Center. I've been told that GC is only obligated hold the gear for two weeks. Then, presumably, they can sell it. I intend to stop by the store tomorrow and ask if that's true. Maybe ask about my keyboards that they never told me they had as well. The beat-to-sh*t ADAMs, those they can keep.

Slightly better news...yesterday I was able to finally cash the insurance check. It was only $6,800 to cover $15,000 in losses, but my understanding is that they may still pay the difference between the depreciated value and the actual replacement cost after I've bought new stuff. Problem is, I can't afford to go out and buy new stuff on the vague promise that maybe they'll help me out later.

In other good news, the new band is coming together and gigs are lining up. Without the distraction of a DAW I am embracing my new old life as a performer. Unfortunately, a 5-piece band doesn't make much money, so it won't be buying me any studio monitors. But at this point I'm going to call gas money a win.

And, if you can't, be negative twice.

UPDATE:
I received a letter from the Everett Police Department today. It reads:

Your case has been thoroughly investigated by a patrol officer and reviewed by a detective sergeant. At this time there is no viable suspect information and/or due to the lack of investigative resources, the case has been inactivated...if additional information is developed that leads to the suspect(s) being identified, you will be contacted. In the mean time there is no need to call requesting the current status of the investigation.

I guess the security video of someone selling my gear, his fingerprints, a photocopy of his driver's license, his name and address were not sufficient to identify a suspect.

I am furious. Imagine sending such a letter to your boss, the one who signs your paycheck: "sorry, I can't do my job, but it's not open to discussion so please don't question me about it."

And now it's time to go public with it. Shameful.
