Stay in there, Dave
I feel disgusted / infuriated on your behalf. This is not right!
All the best.

My 1/2 cent - I quit playing in New Orleans because I was tired of musicians being robbed after gigs loading equipment. If you report it you are treated like the criminal. The cops don't show up to do anything but check for wrong doing when they get there including the one reporting the crime. For me, the only incentive that worked was to stick a 38. in the robbers face with a buddy's gun in his back. I stopped giggin there.

Did they return you your equipment they had knowing it was stolen?

No. I do not know what the final disposition is or will be. No one has said "come get your stuff", or even suggested that as an ultimate outcome. For all I know, GC has already sold it. The ADAMs were still on the sales floor when I checked yesterday (at the bargain price of $588).

As far as I'm concerned, they can keep the stuff. If they returned it to me now I would have to reimburse the insurance company and I'd be out even more money. Plus I'd be stuck with 2 extra amplifiers and 2 extra keyboards that I'd have to put on Craigslist in order to cut my losses. I'm already out $8,000; even if I could sell the recovered gear I'd end up about $10,000 in the hole, $14,000 if I replace the DAW, monitors and microphones.

Not sure if this helps in any way, but being a bit of a search ninja I thought it might be interesting to see what I could find out about the big honchos at GC.

I couldn't find anything about CEO Darrell Webb, but I found this about Ron Japinga, who was promoted to president just a few days ago (6/16 press release):

http://dientes.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/w.-2015-Board-of-Directors-Roster-10.2015.pdf

It lists the board of directors of a community dental center, including their addresses, emails and telephone numbers. The house at that address is supposedly worth about $1.2 mil. - not too shabby.

His birthday was May 7th by the way, so it might be too late to send a card.

Bitflipper, I don't understand why you keep saying you will have to "Reimburse" the insurance company at this point if you get your stuff back? Those items that were stolen are now considered : "Damaged Goods" after being stolen. Get back everything you can recover would be my suggestion. Sounds like you've settled the fact that the items were stolen and those items were missing and any recovery would be damaged. And the insurance company agreed with you by settling with you.

You must have one crappy insurance company if they expect you to pay them back for damaged goods. You didn't pay for insurance to recover "Damaged Goods" you paid for to protect your property. If it's damaged, ya know that's why you pay for insurance.

If you can recover it, doesn't mean you have to pay the insurance company back for the loss, it just means you both have already agreed it's been stolen and damaged at this point and if they recover it, then it should be yours. Meaning, Your MASTER TRACKS if you can find them.

Just my thoughts Bitflipper. I mean well, I'm no lawyer and I am not no expert. But giving up is never a good idea on anything.

In the movies people go to some big newspaper and go public but there is some downside perhaps to that approach.

When I had to renew my musical intrumentals insurance rider this year, it came with a new clause attached that I had to agree to. I had to call my agent for clarification before signing and renewing. Basically, what it said was that if my instruments were stolen and then I was reimbursed for them, if they were recovered, they were now the property of State Farm. I told my agent that was not really a great policy if I happen to have a vintage instrument stolen, one that had sentimental value to it as well as monitary value. She really didn't have a good answer for me.

I believe that's USAA's policy as well.  So....wouldn't USAA be interested in getting their property you've found at GC?  Just wondering if they might have more success (read: money and lawyers) getting the stolen equipment...

Just a thought.  Maybe even a thief's name gets dropped here or there...
