Sometime between 11 last night and 4 this morning my office/studio was cleaned out. All musical instruments, amps, studio monitors, mikes, even my sub - all gone. Computers, along with SONAR and every sample library (backed up but they took my backup drive too). I am so screwed. Yes, I have insurance, but that wont replace 10 years of projects.
Just needed to rant.

Sorry for you, bit.
I don´t want to imagine what this would matter to me.

There seems to be no way then a new and fresh start,
don´t know this  is for you.

> All they can do is look up the address and see if there are known baddies living there.

My mind's been boggling over this for about three hours now.  Understood that they can't enter the premises without a warrant, but can't a warrant be issued on grounds of reasonable suspicion?  A clear exit path leading over the fence into their house sounds a bit suspicious to me.  Could they not have at least knocked on the door and had a chat with them?

Stay on the cops - my experience is they tend to do the minimum to get by. I once had to go to the local TV station and they offered to do a story on my situation (looong story on this one - one of the first identity thefts in Nebraska). I went back to the head of detectives, told him that I had handed his detective the perp but he did nothing and that I was going to do a news interview later that day.

The thief was picked up that afternoon and went to jail for something like 6-10 years...

+1, this has been on my mind all morning. Surely they can do something if it seems so obvious?

I just can't find the words....
With every cell in body I hope the theft gets solved, the perpetrators are skinned alive and rolled
in salt. ( And that's not hate-talk, that was the humane version).

Once you have a detailed list of the items stolen, post it or PM a copy to some of us down here around the Portland Metro Area (me, Pedro, Kenny, eph).  That way if we hear of anything (or see something on Craigslist) we can let you know.

Indeed ... anything we can help with ... even backups! My clouds are usually some portable old hard drives on enclosures, and I have two of them away from here, updated every other month alternatively, as possible. And the faster the better so that stuff does not get moved out one item at a time, to avoid being seen or found. I would actually alert a couple of neighbors to help keep an eye on things, and also ensure that those folks are watched, as it would be likely they hit someone else as well.

I'm not a great fan of clouds, but it looks like it's the only option at the moment ... but yeah, the police and the like needs to get on it, and you need an inventory ...

Hate to hear this stuff ... hope for the best!

In case anybody sees any of these things on Craigslist, these are the major items, some of which don't often show up on Craigslist:

Yamaha MO8 synth
Hammond XK-1 organ
Roland KC-350 amplifier (x2)
ADAM P-11A powered monitors
M-Audio SBX-10 powered subwoofer
TC Helicon VoiceLive effects processor
Ventilator Leslie simulator

Thanks for keeping an eye out for these!

I'm real sorry to hear about what happened too you Dave ....
Honestly , it kicked up some unresolved stuff I have went through in the past ....
I don't know what to say ,
Other than if you get desperate and you need a loaner Squier Strat or something to bang away on .
I don't know what else I can offer ....
I'm always a week a two away from looking at my dogs 50 dollar monthly bag of kibble and wondering if I can survive on that myself if I had too ,

all the best ,

Kenny

As much as I don't like dogs, this is one reason people have them tied up outside.

The office where I used to work had their computers stolen one weekend. We had surveillance footage showing the culprit in action but it was dark and their face was not identifiable. In the end it turned out to be one of the staff members' kids who took their keys and walked right in.

"Don't assume you're immune, don't let your security measures lapse, keep photos and serial numbers - and not on the computer likely to be stolen."

One advantage to working on a laptop. I take photos once a year with a camera that goes with me along with the laptop & hard drive when I leave for extended periods. The rest is replaceable.
