Good times :-)
I fell out of PF after 1974, when they were playing what became part of "Animals" and instead put together a copy of DSOTM for the record company instead, in WYWH. While I do not dislike WYWH, in the end, the freshness and excitement that the new material brought was way better than what went on to become two separate albums, and in my book, the better one, was left behind and ended up sounding poor and not as good as the original.
By 1975, I was pretty much out of the PF mode already, and enjoying the European scene. Between Ange, Banco, PFM, Amon Dull 2, Can, Faust, Tangerine Dream, and so many others, the music was far more adventurous and exciting than what PF was doing, and there was a lot less ego involved and more attention to their work itself. Every time I hear about another fight or argument between Waters and Gilmour, I just get even further away from PF ... too much ugliness, and no appreciation for the amount of money and fame they milked out of it, which to me, diluted the art somewhat.
It's similar to the Beatles and the like for me. For example, it's all about the hits and the fame, and the Beatles Christmas Shows, that show the fab' personality so wonderfully, are still not released properly, but make for a fun bootleg to listen to. Likewise for the incredible amount of material around "Let It Be", and a great movie, that is locked up so no one can find out who the real people were! Be it Paul or Yoko, I don't care ... this is not a judgement, and I don't think any of them look "bad", any more than they do as honest living people having their daily repercussions, like a brother and sister or family would. Big deal ... but the media blitz that wants to create "heroes" so you lose touch with yourself ... is allowed to tell you what is good and bad.
In the end, this is like bad, old, translations of news ... like 350 years after the fact ... which helped create a book about something that did not exist or happened, and changed the ideas so we would think there was a deity behind it, and not a man that can teach us more than a deity can!
Sorry ... they can have their "gold". It's not mine!
