  • Installing X2 Killed EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer

After installing X2 Producer I inserted an instance of Superior Drummer...so far so good.  The Superior GUI looked fine and worked 'visually' (didn't freeze up).  But...and it's a big BUT... Superior didn't load any sounds!  I quit SONAR and restarted, then inserted EZ Drummer.  Same thing...it didn't load any sounds.  Funny part is, neither drummer seemed to notice they had no instruments to play.  The GUIs looked and worked normally, except the part where megabytes loaded equalled zero.

So, I started the previous version of SONAR, since it had been just fine up till now.  Well, the old version of SONAR would only start if I migrated settings from what it called the prior installation (parapharased).  Now, the previous version of SONAR doesn't see the drum files either!

I didn't move the drum files, your Honor, I swear!  Does anyone here have a clue as to what happened?  Well, I do have a clue, myself, but tell me what you think about my clue.  Before I installed X2, I rebooted my computer just to clear out any cobwebs and then I logged into a new 'user account' that I had created a few days ago.  After creating that new user account and logging into it the first time, I noticed that Google Chrome wasn't available to me from within that account.  I knew some things would be inaccessible from an alternate user account but it surprised me that a web browser would become hidden.  Then, I installed Chrome from within that account and all seemed fine...until I installed X2 and discovered that two of my favorite drummers had been killed.

I thought about the problem, logged out of the new user account and logged into the original user account...thinking that all of my worries would be washed away and that everything would work as it's supposed to, since I'm 'back home' now, in my old user account.  No such luck.  The drummers are still dead no matter what I try.

If any of you remember how long it takes to install (or re-install) an arsenal of Toontrack applications, patches and upgrades, you'll understand why I'd do almost anything to avoid having to bury my dead drummers and delete all of the related files and then start all over again.

This almost has to be a simple fix, right?  Something has failed to point to the right location for all the drum files and SONAR X2 is the apparent, if not obvious, culprit.  If my fellow Cakewalkers and SONARites would kindly assist me in finding a solution and help bring my old drummer-friends back to life, I'd be most appreciative.  In other words,  heeeeeeelp!  Thanks.

Just reinstall the SupDrummer 2 program not  the samples.

from within Superior drummer you can assign the location of your samples. In fact that may be all that you need to do - you can check before reinstalling Sup Drummer 2.

no need to reinstall, just look for the DLL's in the vst folders, make sure they are in there and that you plugin manager is pointed towards that folder.
yes it is common, everything opens but the bar doesn't load, this is because everything is where it should be except the folder that points the EZ brothers to their respective library's, no library, no loadie.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on my dead drummers situation. I do appreciate the time you've taken in my behalf. I've spent untold hours trying to sort this mess out but so far my drummers are still either AWOL or dead.  They were happy as could be before I installed X2, so I'm still hoping for more suggestions from my friends here on this forum...the best forum that ever existed.

During the startup of X2 and the plugins scan, I get a notice that bitbridge has crashed...at the end of the scan, there's another notice that JBridge has crashed.  I'm given a choice to disable plugin or run anyway.  I've tried both choices to no avail.  Here's the first message that appears during the vst scan:

Here's another strange behavior that happens during x3 startup:  while scanning vsts, a message pops up saying Rapture LE is having a problem, so I have to choose to quit or try again on that app.  The full version of Rapture, which I bought separately several years ago, seems to run fine at 1.5.  Dimension Pro is ok as well.
For some unknown reason, however, it appears that all of my Toontrack drum files are missing or somehow misplaced.  The Toontrack folders in Program Files 86 are reported as empty!  How can that be?
One more clue...after Bitbridge, Rapture LE and Jbridge also fail, another window pops up saying something like: Proxy Dll could not be found.  It doesn't say which app that relates to.

Anyone know where Toontrack drum files are 'supposed' to be?  The user manual isn't helping at all...and it's a real hassle to deal with Toontrack technical support...I'd rather go to the dentist.  Thanks.

Happy Easter everyone!

toontrack support is awesome, they've always gotten right back to me.
I would send them a message if you cant get an answer here.

you have given little info on if this is 32/64 bit.

but im not sure what this is 32 or 64 ? so I cant tell you where it is.

Right - need some vital information.

Prior to installing X2 where you using a 32 bit version of Sonar?
Is your new X2 installation 64 bit?
Have you downloaded and installed the latest Ez and Superior Drummer updates from your Toontrack account?

If the answers are yes, yes and no - there is ypour problem stright away. The 32 bit versions of EZD and SD do not work in 64 bit Sonar via bitbridge. The 64 bit update is the latest version in your Toontrack acount. The symptom of using 32 bit EZ or SD in 64 bit Sonar is the samples don't load.

One more thing when you install the Toontrack 64 bit updates follow the instructions to the letter. Improvisation has screwed thing up for quite a few people.

Glyn, before I read your post I had uninstalled X2 and X1...and found everything working fine in 8.5.  I then installed X2 32bit and all was good there as well.
No, I haven't updated the drummers in several years, so I reckon that's been the problem all along.  Thanks for clarifying.
This brings me to another question...Can I install X2 64 alongside the 32 bit version without creating a big can of worms?  I suppose I'd have to be extra careful about where I put/scan vst plugins?
