So, I just installed X2 Studio last night, and I'm trying to test some of the new softsynths on MIDI Instrument tracks, and while the sounds from the softsynths play fine, I can't seem to silence the external ones from my Alesis Fusion 8HD. I'm not supposed to turn down the Vol on the Alesis 8HD...AM I? I've vfd the following parameters on the MIDI Instr track: 1.) MIDI ch. is set to the same ch. ext. keybd is set on, and set to the softsynth. 2.) MIDI IN is set to the Alesis 8HD. (HAS TO) 3.) MIDI OUT is set to the Stereo OUT on my F'wire interface. 4.) Bank/Program parameters set as I wish. 5.) Settings for softsynth are checked to only create a Simple MIDI Instr ch. 6.) Finally, the MIDI ch. is the one that I have highlighted, or what the cursor is on. I don't know what else I can check. Thanks, KC

Normally, you would turn 'Local Off' on the external keyboard, so that you weren't also triggering its internal sounds.  There should be a function on the keyboard to do this, and you turn it back on when you want to hear the keyboard's sounds again.

If you hear it then 2 things:
It's audio outputs are hooked up to your monitor system so turn it down or off. Yes the volume control would be logical.   As Mr Bone say's most people turn off "local" or you will hear it's sound when played.

It is receiving MIDI data from somewhere, that means you have the track set to send midi data to either the USB or MIDI output port. disable this. Check your tracks output is set to the soft synth only and that the soft synths are set to master only.

3.) MIDI OUT is set to the Stereo OUT on my F'wire interface.
I don't think so, Audio outputs are not an option for midi output. It's either a midi port, USB or to the MS wavesynth thing.

Thanks guys. Here's what I know. 1.) "Local" is OFF. 2.) I vfd 3X's the OUTs are going where I said. 3.) It's rec'ving MIDI data from my keyboard in order to trigger the softsynth. I guess I could turn down the ext kybd Volume, but I don't remember ever having to do that. It's been awhile since I worked with it. Thanks.

Set your keyboard to transmit MIDI only and not MIDI and Audio when recording. If you hear it on playback also, just make sure the MIDI is not looping back into your keyboard
