I will try to word this the best I can. Besides composing, I have a hobby where I take old video game MIDIs and rearrange them using modern sampled instrument libraries. I have been working on the Sierra classic adventures, namely King's Quest and Space Quest. The MIDIs I downloaded from Quest Studios work fine in SONAR X2 Studio. But some of the MIDIs soundtracks are incomplete. So I have been pointed to something called the SCI viewer which allows you to access the files from Sierra games. I find the missing MIDI files and save them as .mid files. And when I play them in Media Player they play like they are supposed to. But I try opening them in SONAR the MIDIs are compressed to the beginning and when I push play I just get a burst of sound and that's it. I tried several things like renaming the files and putting .midi or .rmf behind them. I am confused so if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks. SONAR X2 Studio. Import the midi at then go to views and event list and see what data is presented. Could be some controllers or anything stopping the reading of the midi data. It could be saved with no mapping so the system does not know what to play.

I looked at the event list. The MIDI I tested was 4:00 long. Looking at the Event List showed everything pushed to the beginning and the file was changed to 4 seconds long. So I think the issue is the time encoding. The files I downloaded were fine. So just the files I get from that viewer I guess. They play fine in Media Player so the MIDI is not broken itself, it seems to be in the communication between the file and SONAR, and I am at a loss to how to fix that...

You will need to share the file on line with dropbox or something similar.

Hi - I sent you a Private Message (PM) with my personal email address.  Please use that address to send me one or two of these 'broken' midi files, and I will take a look at them.

the midi files probably vontain tempo and timing data. if you "import midi" into an existing sonar project that info is lost. if you open the file into a new sonar project that data will be retained "file/open >select midi file".

+1 to swamptooth's suggestion.

When I pull midi in from an external source, I open the midi file with Sonar, rather than import it.

Please give that a try and post back,
