Problem: can't convert MIDI tracks to audio tracks. Parameters: Software: Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 10.0.2 (please don't blast me for using such an old version - I'm an unemployed semi-pro musician trying to keep busy!) Board: Behringer 16 channel via USB interface (operates via an audio CODEC) Laptop: Lenovo (about 2 years old). I can't find anywhere on the laptop to change line input info in the laptop's sound card mixer. I CAN change the default mic/speakers from the USB audio codec to the Lenovo's (presumed default) Realtek HD audio, but that simply plays/records the track using the laptop's awful condenser speaker/mic - including ambient noise - and sounds terrible.

So, what does the help file say? Does HS2002 not have bounce-to-track-function? 
Sorry...never seen that version, so I'm just shooting blind :o/

Kalle: Apparently, there is no bounce-MIDI-to-Audio in this early version and you have to convert it internally. "Help" button and "Cakewalk Power" book aren't providing any answers either. Thanks for your input (and I love your tag, btw). Hoping a Roland/Cakewalk tech person is a mod on this board and can give me a solution. Any out there?...

That's what "bounce" means.
When you click Edit at the top, is there no "bounce to track" among the options?
How were you trying to do it?

No bounce to audio in the Edit options. There IS a bounce to tracks option, but when I have the MIDI track highlighted and click "bounce to tracks" I get a message stating "No audio to mix-down!" According to my "Cakewalk Power" book, I need to internally convert the MIDI track to audio via changing the line input on my sound card's recording mixer. Trouble is, there is no place in either of the 2 sound cards with this laptop to do so (see Parameters in the OP)

You must higlight both MIDI-track and audio output track in order to bounce.

Ooops. Sorry. I should have written "bounce to track". Corrected my post.
And Kalle's right; you need to select both the synth track and MIDI track. Make sure they are selected-the track clips will become darker when selected.

Kalle/Greg: Thanks so much - now I need your help in defining what you mean by "highlight/select audio output or synth track". If you mean: In the track view, simply highlight the MIDI track AND the audio track I want to bounce to, I've tried it and it doesn't work. If you mean: Change the output on the audio track I'm bouncing to to match the output on the MIDI track I've already created, it's not giving me the option of changing the output in the audio track to match the output in the MIDI track (which is Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, which I assume to be my laptop's internal synth). To select a track, click on the track number. To select multiple tracks, hold down CTRL and click on the track numbers. To select all tracks, CTRL-A. When I mixdown a project to an audio (WAV) file, I mute the tracks I don't want, CTRL-A to select all tracks, and then File-Export-Audio. 

The MS Wavetable synth cannot be bounced. It is essentially an external device. To bounce your MIDI to audio, you must have a soft synth inserted in your project. It would have a synth audio track, in addition to the MIDI track you are seeing.
Considering the vintage of your software, the Edirol VSC synth is a likely option. Like the MS Wavetable synth, it is a GM synth, but it operates within the framework of Cakewalk/Sonar.
Insert that, direct your MIDI track output to it, and it will provide the missing audio that the bounce function is looking for.
