I've got the PODxt going into the MOTU Traveler interface on analog inputs 5 and 6. 

I select 'Left Line6 PODxt Pro' as the input and I get a nice level on the meter but:

- no level shows in the Cue Mix software 
- no level shows on the MOTU Traveler meters 
- and I can barely hear it.

If I record, I can hear the resulting audio just fine. That's no good because I can't hear it during recording. Selecting MOTU inputs (5, 6, or stereo) doesn't work at all. 

Does anyone know how to make the POD work with the MOTU and Sonar?

Sounds like you're trying to use 2 audio interfaces, i.e., the MOTU Traveler and PODxt. 

As I see it, the track input should be the MOTU and not the PODxt. I have a PODxtLive, but I don't use it as an audio interface. Don't even check it on the Preferences - Audio settings page. ASIO mode will only work with one audio interface and using WDM mode with 2 different audio interfaces can cause timing issues. 


This is how I see the signal chain: 
Guitar -> PODxt -> MOTU -> Computer/Sonar

So you're saying there should be no POD driver involved at all? 

When I turn on the POD, I get the question: Do you want Sonar to add this Device? 

Should I be saying NO to that?

I reset my timing master to the MOTU (because the Line6 stuff always wants to take over) and made sure no trace of the POD is found anywhere in the Options > Audio tabs. 

No difference, I can't get level to appear at the MOTU or the Cue Mix software. I'm baffled, POD L and R OUTs go to MOTU 5 & 6 (or whatever, I've tried others) then I select 5 as the INPUT in Sonar. 

To my mind, that should do it but no cigar (even when the track is armed for record).

The analog outputs have gone bad, cause unknown. This is disheartening because even though it's not new, it's always been inside the house in a rack in a room that's not dusty and doesn't get hot. Component failure under those conditions is a bit sad. 

Note to other POD users: 
If you're not using the POD as an interface or for re-amping, you don't need the Line 6 driver at all. If you get the question 'Do you want Sonar to add this device' Yes, means you're telling Sonar to see the POD as an interface. If you already have an interface, this will cause much confusion.


The outputs will be changed to POD outputs inside your Sonar files and you'll be inadvertently trying to work with two interfaces. If you leave the Line 6 driver installed and you're working with another interface, always say NO to that prompt.

If you're not using the POD XT as an interface, you don't need it connected to the PC at all! Just treat it as an external instrument plugged into your MOTU unit. Then the issue of the driver should never come up.

Correct as Kylotan says, but: 
I've found out that I just unticked the POD in the audio and midi settings, so it was not an alternative for Sonar to use as an audio interface. This way I still could connect it to the computer via USB - this was required to use the POD Farm (POD had to be connected for authorization)


If you want to use GearBox as a VST for instance, I think it is required to have the POD connected via USB. But you still can disable the POD as an audio interface.

Are you sure? Did you plug it into and amp (not headphones) and try it? That seems unusual. Does it power up?

if your analog outputs have gone bad - The MOTU Traveler should have SPDIF in, and if you have the POD XT pro (rack) it has SPDIF out. 
This gives you the best audio quality also - pure digital

I must concur.  I use the Line 6 UX1 with POD Farm as my interface, and I absolutely love it.  But if I want to use my POD XT Live in conjunction with it, I have to use one or the other.  I used to use the XT Live as an input interface when I had no other, using the USB cable to record with.
 
My solution now is:  I purchased a small Behringer Xenyx802 line mixer, its audio outs go to the line in on the UX1, and I have various vocal pre, as well as every preset in my POD XT Live mirrored in POD FARM. 
My Pod XT Live, my Alesis QS&, and my mics all go into the Xenyx, but I leave the eq flat and only use tone shaping within my own created POD Farm presets.  The Xenyx gives me phantom power for my condesir mic, and I can leave it off for my passives.
 
As soon as my Alesis QS7 sells, I'll be getting the Aruria Lab Experience 49, and using only sounds in the box, so only the guitar/voc will go through the mixer.
