enough is enough, Sonar 7 (7.0.2) is really an unreliable piece of software. 

- A Project of mine contains several tracks and it is playing as a loop. While playing I am doing some audio FX on an audio-clip, after that I do undo and somehow other audio clips (in other tracks) sound muted at several moments during the loop after the undo. I have to repress the play button to get it sound normal. Weird

- I got send automated and while the curve at some moment in the loop definitively peaks I do not hear ANYTHING of the FX I got on the bus I send audio data to. A restart of the loop makes everything normal it seems.  

You would say upgrade to a newer version? The opposite, if a prog is so unreliable than I see it as an reason NOT to upgrade. In fact I am looking for something else. 

I was using the software when it was still called Cakewalk: not noticed a single bug and it almost never crashed. 

I am semi-pro writing stuff for labels, but I can not continue with Sonar. 

These comments are about 5 years late, FL. Are you just now finding out about S7's shortcomings? Is this a copy someone passed on to you? (I'm not judging!)

Yes, S7 had some annoying bugs, but somehow we all managed to make records with it for a year or more despite those flaws. Every previous version had problems, too. Version 8 was a major improvement, and 8.5 was even better. Then it all fell apart with X1, and CW has been climbing out of that hole ever since.

You basically have two choices: upgrade to X2 or switch to another DAW. There are perils to either path. X2 still has issues, some of which date back to S7 and before. But they are being addressed. The other option is to adopt another DAW, starting at the bottom of the learning curve - only to find that they ALL have bugs and design shortcomings. Every one of them.

I am a legal registered owner of the program. (else I wouldn't be able to update to 7.0.2 I would say)

they better work on fixing bugs instead of putting new features in it what the heck do I need a step-sequencer for?
As you said: X2 still has issues. It won't stop, it has become part of software culture and I HATE it.

I've been using 7PE for 4½ years (until this week when I finally succumbed to the latest upgrade offer).  I didn't discover any real bugs during that time, apart from a few very minor things.  I also found it to be one of the most stable piece of software that I have ever worked with anywhere.  That's why I stuck with this version for so long.  I might even return to it if X2 doesn't work out.

x2a has been a work horse here, very little to no problems.
I use a lot of features as well so id like to think I've gotten a very good look at it.
and its a huge step from earlier versions, its definitely everything x1 was not.

every software has its issues ive learned that the hard way.
ive found cakewalk makes a pretty reliable software and that's why im still using sonar.

sorry but trying to get them to fix a version that is over 5 years old is out of the question.
why not try and download the 30 day trial and se what you get?
you might find what ever it is that's annoying you is fixed in x2.
unless your running XP or vista, then don't even bother.
its not supported.
x2 was made to run on windows 8 (7 too) but windows 8 seems to be a nice fit.
very fast and likable.

I know you said you were using cakewalk when it was still called cakewalk, do you remember which version that was ?
because Ive used almost all of them and I can point to an issue in almost every single version.
but on the flip side of that, ive tried many other daw's and had just as many if not more problems with those.

I do honestly wish you luck in your choices, but you may find its a cruel world out there.
a program like sonar is a highlight in groove looping, acid files, unless your going to go with reason,(which I don't consider a daw because of its limitations to not being able to record audio) theres not another daw out there that's as good and specializes in looping like sonar. (my opinion + and many others)

learning a new daw stinks as well, but its even more insulting when you learn that daw and start seeing glitches and bugs, it makes one feel really small.

3.0 and 6.0 (Express)

when it comes to clips: I use a lot of loops but never had the feeling to convert them into groove-clips. Most of the time I work on a project the tempo is allright and I do not feel the need to change. 

I do not expect them, to fix it, I know I am behind, but it tells me where Cakewalk has the focus and where not. 

All my problems are audio related. And I am not the only one and they are not solved cause this is X1/X2:

learning a new DAW is not a problem for me, however I am afraid that the other DAW has its issues too 



     

well with color settings like this I have at least the illusion I am using pro tools
