Hi Guys,

Probably the same as many here .. I have quiet a few plugins collected and bought over the years. All loaded up inside Sonar.

Many are 32 Bit VSTs I either dont use much anymore, Free VSTs, stuff like that

Does it matter much to Sonar performance to leave them there or is it better to do a 32 but vst cull?

Is it ultimately best to aim to have 64 bit VSTs only eventually?

Changing over to all 64bit plugins on 64 Bit OS was probably the biggest improvement in stability ever in Sonar for me. Definitely do it!

It won't hurt to leave them there as long as you don't use them, but then, what's the point:)

I mostly weeded out my 32 bit plugs, but there are a few non-replaceables, sometimes when I load a 32bit plugin I get crackles, and then I load it with J-bridge, no more problems, in fact with J-bridge I have zero problems with 32 bit plugins, no stuck gui's, no crackling, no problems, J-bridge has been rock solid for using 32bit plugs, highly recomended if you have any problems, if you don't have any problems, you should not fear that you do.

32 bit plugs work great on my win 7 system. They sound good - there's no latency or GUI  issues. Many that I own have not been ported over to 64 bit.

I try to avoid 32 bit plugs, if I can, but I have a couple that I still like to use, and they usually work okay. I don't know if simply having them in your VST folders presents a problem, especially if you never actually fire them up -- unless they cause issues during VST scan.

If you have any that seem dodgy but you really want to hang on to them, jbridge (mentioned above by frankjcc) is really worth trying. I have a couple of 32 bit plugs that I like -- including the very old Emu ProteusVX 32bit VST instrument that I use to run my old Emulator X libraries. ProteusVX normally won't play well with Bitbridge (problems with the GUI), but jbridge runs it without any problems at all in Sonar Plat using Win 10 64. Gives me access to all the libraries I used when I was running an Emu 1212m soundcard and Emulator X Studio (pretty old stuff, but there is a ton of cool patches in the Proteus Composer Bank that I enjoy using).
