I think if you try and simply locate the dll on the DVD and copy it across then it won't work.

You'll have to do a partial install from the DVD just as though you are going to do a full install, but then deselect everything you don't want installed and just leave the VX64 checked.

Apologies if you know this and are already following these steps - but this should work!

Look for it in the Plug-In Manager. It should be listed under VST Audio Effects and it should be located in:
c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\Vocal Strip\VX64_VocalStrip_64.DLL (for the 64-bit version).

AFAIK: I believe the VX-64 is 64-bit only and so it won't work on the 32-bit installation, but I have not been able to confirm that and I don't have the 32-bit version installed.

 I'm running 8.3.1 Producer edition.

The VX-64 was new to Sonar 8.5 so it was not available in 8.3.

If you have the 8.5 installation disks, why are you still running 8.3? It's a completely safe upgrade, and you'll not only pick up the VX-64 vocal strip but the more useful PX-64 percussion strip as well.

I have Sonar 8.5 64-bit running on a Win7 64 machine, but I have version 8.3.1 32-bit running on my WinXP 32 machine.  I was under the impression that 8.3.1 was better for a 32-bit operating system than 8.5.  Is my understanding wrong?

If it's not a problem for me to run 8.5 on my 32-bit machine, I may just do that if it solves the VX-64 problem.

However, I managed to get VX-64 installed in 8.3.1, as I believe it came with that update.  I never sought out that plug-in specifically...  it simply appeared in my VST list after upgrading 8.0 to 8.3.1.

32 bit 8.5 ran fine for me on a 32bit Win XP SP1 machine until I retired the machine last year.

I'm still running 32-bit 8.5. No problems at all.

The VX-64 was definitely part of 8.5. But I'm certain it would be compatible with 8.3 as well. You could install 8.5, and if there was any kind of problem, just not use it. You'd still get the vocal and percussion strips for 8.3, plus the TL-64 tube leveler, the TS-64 transient designer, and the older but still-useful Studioverb plugin.
