I don't know what happened but all of the sudden im not able to record session drummer or cw soundcenter as soon as I click on a key or a drum in drummer I hear the sound and see the level on console etc but when I click record I hear metronome and nothing I press gets recorded. I don't know what could have magicly happened . I was using wdm driver when I first trtyed to record vocals then I found out that asio setting is the way to go so sonar is set on that I was able to record clear vocals with no whinning sound in the mic.

For some reason when I tried to load a wave sample I created in Cubase I tried to load session drummer to play right along side the audio track and for some reason nothing im tapping is recording . All I wanted to do was the dark kit  to the chopped up sample but for some reason no data is being picked up??? any ideas its prolly something stupid im overlooking

Just to be sure you are seeing what is expected...................to record session drummer you'll be recording MIDI data not audio. Once the data is there you can freeze or bounce to tracks to create the audio wavefile.

Is it MIDI you are trying to record?

"All of a sudden"???? It's never been possible, nor ment to be, to record the drums clicking the drums or keys on the VST user interface.
(Well, theoretically, you can record "What U hear" but that's not the way, really)

yes it can be done I was doing it. ??? what do you call it when session drummer is playing a preset kit sound in loop?? If session drummer is a vst then why would one assume its audio data im trying to record??? When you load the vst whatever kind of data its setup to do is what it will record right??? so why ask me if im trying to record midi when you know session drummer is midi and that's the track that wont output data.

Regardless of how many tracks im trying to record or weather its midi or audio when I hit record and tap my pads I don't get any data. this just happened last night .

Im pretty sure Microsoft synth wave gs was checked before however when I recheck it says hd audio not connected reroute to an available device. so I can see the meters moving but I cant hear anything. When I go back and uncheck
ms synth gs under output I magicly get sound when I touch my pads or click the mouse over the vst keyboard note.

I have 2 only 2 outputs that show akai mpd and ms synth wave gs.

All im trying to do is play a simple vst and record it im trying to record session drummer along with my imported wav file which was just a sample from an old beatles album. so the audio data is already there now I just gotta get the session drummer to beable to record what I play again. Im using onboard sound btw and sonar x2 64 win7 64

I'm guessing because you will have 2 tracks assigned to that VST - a midi track and an audio track.  FB was just checking you had correctly armed the midi track to capture the note data, rather than the audio output.  If you can 'play' and hear/see it then it sounds like the record arm is not being set quite right.

If you armed the midi track associated with the vst and you can hear the sound when you trigger the pads then you should be ready to record. I suggest you start a new project and try again to see if it works for you. You will not need the microsoft synth wave gs thing.

I don't know for the past 2 weeks since I got my computer upgraded and fixed I have been able to insert soft synth like fm8 or session drummer and load a kit or preset in fm8 and I would just click the record button make it turn red on the track im working with and then hit the main transport record button  touch my pads and play a kick a snare a hit and sonar would pickup that data as im playing .

Now for some reason when I hit record no pad I touch 1-16 outputs the data yet I can see the meters move when I press a pad and hear the kick or snare or in fm8 the sound yet nothing is picked up

you don't need to touch any setting when inserting the vst like output to midi or stereo output anything like that. You should be able to just load the vst and hit ok and everything normally records. I must have somehow touched a setting without knowing its wierd
