I would suggest you do the following, as a test:

1.  Save off the project, by copying the entire project folder under a new name, as a backup, or to use the newly copied one as a guinea pig for testing purposes.

2.  Try disabling all plugins - I think the keyboard shortcut is 'E', and see if that eliminates the crashing.  If so, then try loading one plug in at a time and running for a while until you find out which one kills it.

I do not think buffer size would crash it.  It would only cause dropouts, to the best of my knowledge.

A disk scan and memory scan do seem worth doing - memory might not be accessed by most programs, as Sonar can access quite a bit of it - probably more than most programs.  And who knows on a bad sector on the disk.

You could probably check the Windows Event Viewer for critical errors in the disk sub-system, as a quicker way to see about a disk error than running a full scan.  Just a thought.

Open your project in safe mode.   Hold shift key when selecting the project.   Try first with all plugins.   See if still crashes.   If so, Try without plugins (still in safe mode).    If doesn't crash, try enabling one at a time until you find culprit.  If it works in safe mode with plugins, not sure what it means but its a start and someone can tell at cakewalk or perhaps in the pdf user guide which is very robust.

I was having problems on my (gulp!) Vista 64bit Quad machine (I'm between upgrades due to cash flow) and switched back to X1 for most tasks. I ran CCleaner and it seemed to clear up the most annoying issues in X2. Also I never trust a 32bit VST(i). Always test first. Some work, most do not. Turn off all of your background processes if you can and disable all of the hardware peripherals that you can. I have many fewer glitches and no crashes yet. I still go to X1 for various tasks, even 8.5.3 for some, Audition for others. All seem to operate much better after a good cleaning.

"Hi, if crashing happens repeatedly, ram and power adaptor are often the reason.
350 Watt aso are not strong enough.
Better also stabilized........

Pragi"

True, thanks for the response. In this case, I'm running a Lenovo K430 with a 450W power supply. Crashes don't happen repeatedly, but instead only with Sonar X2a, and these are not system crashes, just sonarpdr.exe itself.

To the original poster, have you tried any of the suggestions presented?  Of so, can you please post back on the results?

Thanks, we'll try to help you get this resolved.

Yeah, I don't get it either.  I have seen others too post problems, then they have ignored responding to requests for more detail on their systems and on the failing projects and such, or a bunch suggestions were offered, but then they come back in and post again like they just blew off the folks who were willing to help but needed more info to do so, or never indicate the results of trying any of the suggestions.

I am not saying that's the case with this thread - I hope it is just because the original poster threw a quick post in - because he only had enough time for the quick post.

In ANY case, nobody here in the forum can help this guy without him being more engaged with the folks trying to help.  He will either respond with that information, or people will bow out of the thread because there is no way to help without knowing what the results were from the offered suggestions.

So, mister original poster - the ball is completely in your court at this point.  Please post back with some idea of which suggestions you tried, and what the results were when you did.
